The Interrupters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've been there since Queen St. in 1993
Yeah twenty years and a thousand beers and you're still there for me
Whitaker Park park after dark, 'till the cops came spotlighting
And yeah we ran, were just kids back then
And we're still singin'...
(Yeah!)

I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
But if I do die, do die
I know you'll be by my side

Outcasts in a small town, in Big Sky country
You had a pickup truck with the music turned up
"Let's Go!" cassete side B
How we risked our lives playing with knives to escape monotony
After all the stupid things we did our hearts are still beating

I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
But if I do die, do die
I know you'll be by my side

I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die-ie-ie
But if I do die, do die
I know you'll be by my side

(Hell yeah)
(We got two of that, baby)
(Right here in L.A.)
(It's all [?])

I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die-ie-ie
But if I do die, do die
I know you'll be by my side
Oy oy!

I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die-ie-ie
But if I do die, do die
I know you'll be by my side

I know you'll be by my side

I know you'll be by my side
I know you'll be by my side

Overall Meaning

The Interrupters’s song By My Side is a tribute to long-lasting friendship that has been through thick and thin. The lyrics describe the unbreakable bond between two friends who have been by each other’s side since their wild and daring teenage years. From the lively Queen Street of yesteryear in 1993, to Whitaker Park after dark, where they hid from the law seeking teenage thrills, they have shared it all. Despite being outcasts in a small town in Big Sky country, their love for punk rock music and escaping monotony by taking risks with knives has kept them alive till date.

The chorus of the song is a plea to avoid any possibility of losing one's life, but if that happens, the singer is sure that her friend will be by her side. The melody is enthusiastic and melodic, which effectively communicates the excitement and unfeigned happiness that longtime friendship can bring. The song is an up-tempo, fun, and hopeful tribute that reassures the listener that through thick and thin, one's closest friends are still by their side.

@Endorill

Just love Hellcat Records, by the way Jo Dino, Give me your granny's contact so I can show her how you treat little old ladies who try to compliment new artist endeavors. I am sure she'd like to know what to expect from you if she ever needs you. I think young and new artists need encouragement. You, however, need a course in manners.

Saw The Interrupters live yesterday. I don't think I've ever come across a stage presence like Aimee Allen. Her positivity, energy and audience interaction was absolutely captivating. Everything she did on stage mirrored what I felt in watching and listening. The instant accessibility of their material had the audience in their hands. Crowds of people who had never heard their songs before were chanting along to their fundamentally truthful lyrics and hooky melodies. Sensational engagement. Overwhelming.
