Big Sky
The Isaacs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The streets are jammed with traffic going nowhere.
There's rows of parking meeters, instead of trees.
A highrise on either side, makes a sliver of the sky.
And it looks like they're closing in on me.
I know the stars are up there.
But I never get to see them.
Ain't nothin growing here, but a lonely feeling.
All I need is room to run.
where the Horizon's endless.
And Heaven shines on me at night.
I wanna race the rising sun.
Somewhere where there are no fences.
And find a place that's mine.
Under a Big sky.
Under a Big sky.

I've tried so hard to make myself a home here.
But you can't put down roots in concrete.
I feel like a stranger.
Like I'm living in a cage here.
And it's been so long since i've felt like me.
there's horses pulling tourist,
down on second avenue.
I look at them and wonder, if they feel the way i do.

All i need is room to run.
where the horizon's endless.
and heaven shines on me at night.
i wanna race the rising sun.
somewhere where there are no fences
and find a place that's mine
under a big sky
under a big sky

no i don't wanna wait
til it's too late
to find a place i belong

all i need is room to run
where the horizon's endless
and heaven shines on me at night
i wanna race the horizon sun
somewhere where there are no fences
and find a place that's mine

under a big sky
under a big sky

Overall Meaning

The Isaacs's song "Big Sky" is a poignant commentary on the current state of city life. The opening verse describes the claustrophobic and suffocating feeling that comes with living in a crowded city where there is no room to breathe or grow. The singer longs for open spaces, where the skyline is endless and the stars shine bright in the night sky. The juxtaposition of the busy streets, rows of parking meters, and high-rise buildings with the longing for nature and freedom shows the tension that exists between the two worlds.

As the song progresses, the singer reflects on their experience of trying to make a home in the city, but feeling like a stranger living in a concrete cage. The lyrical imagery of horses pulling tourists down Second Avenue is a telling image that highlights the commodification of nature and the natural environment in urban settings. The final verse expresses the urgency of the singer's desire to find a place where they belong, and not wait until it's too late.

on I Said I'll Go

The time is close at hand for the fulfillment of prophecy in Revelations. God asks his children to "take the cross of Jesus into the world and begin gathering the harvest of God's children before it's too late (almost night). He asks his children to stand up for Christ with those who do not believe, and our eternal freedom with Him is at stake. If we do not listen or answer the call He will let the world break us until we realize we cannot do it alone.
Then like all good Fathers, He pick us up and leads us on the path He has prepared for us.
