He has a doctorate in Islamic studies, and he knows Islam so well that he's capable of manipulating the facts in order to achieve his political motives.
The Qu'ran spreads peace, and states that Muslims may use Jihad for self defence in case they are attacked.
This man asserts that they have been attacked by the rest of the world and hence convinces the uninformed people that using Jihad is justified.
But if you look deeper, you'll find that he's going against Islam. He's just hungry for power and used Islam to gain it

The reason that we have laws about different sins is to Protect you from losing you soul and connection. You see it as limits we see it as guidelines to the straight path. Islam is not a violet religion is rather peaceful and to protect the peace we have laws. Laws with punishments to keep you away from doing it. For exampale if a man drinks alcohol, which is a great sin is going to be punished with leashes, but why the reason is that when he drinks he chose to lose control of his own body that can cause to a greatet sin. You shame your family and friends with drinking that filth. You go against the community and it's peace. BTW ISIS is not Islam rather they have taken verses from the Qur'an out of context. You can research it your self In Sha Allah (if God wills) you will be guided
