1) 60's British pop trio The Ivy League consisted of members John Carter, Ken Lewis (previous members of Carter-Lewis and the Southerners), and Perry Ford. All three members were session singers who possessed high-pitched singing voices, forming the group in 1964. Although an initial single quickly disappeared from sight, their second single, "Funny How Love Can Be," turned out to be a surprise U.K. Top Ten hit. Further hits followed, including "That's Why I'm Crying" and a cover of "Tossing And Turning," the latter of which hit number three on the U.K. charts. The original trio managed to only release a single full-length album, 1965's This Is the Ivy League, before both Carter and Lewis left the group a year later. With replacement members Tony Burrows and Neil Landon taking the recently departed original members' places, the Ivy League issued two more full-lengths, 1967's Sounds of the Ivy League and 1969's Tomorrow Is Another Day. They scored another minor hit, "Willow Tree," before changing their name to The Flowerpot Men. In the '80s, fans of the group were confused by a band going by the name of The Ivy League which performed the group's hits at nightclubs, even though none of the group's earlier members were involved. During the '90s, several best-of compilations surfaced, including 1998's 43-track Major League: the Collectors' Ivy League.
2) The Ivy League is a Punk Rock band from Wilmington, NC. The band started out as an Oi! band and as time went on they became a uniqiue style of Punk Rock. Shortly after their CD release tour in 2007 the band broke up and are supposedly re-forming.
3) The Ivy League is an Indie-Pop/Alternative Rock Band from New York, NY. The band has gained a small but avid following through friends of friends, and are quickly turning into one of the fledgling New York High School scene's bands to watch. They have released a music video and digital single, and are scheduled to release their debut, The North Star, early in 2009.
Tossin' And Turnin'
The Ivy League Lyrics

I turn on the light, then while it's burning
I think of all the things that we do
And all the reasons why I love you
Tossin' and turnin'
I'm tossin' and turnin' all night
In my memory, there is confusion
Was I really holding you tight?
Did I really kiss you goodnight?
Tossin' and turnin'
I'm tossin' and turnin' all night
What you gonna do at night?
Nobody to hold you tight, are you lonely?
Don't you know that I get lonely too
And I'm blaming you
When we meet again, maybe tomorrow
You will smile and then goodbye to sorrow
We'll be lovers just as before
I guess I'll never sleep anymore
Tossin' and turnin'
I'm tossin' and turnin' all night
The Ivy League's song "Tossin' and Turnin'" is a love ballad that speaks to the sleepless nights the singer has because he is consumed by thoughts of his lover. He cannot rest until he has gone through every event in his mind and puts these memories of him and his lover to rest. He wants to reconcile their relationship, hence the verse where he mentions that they will meet again, and he hopes they can recapture their former love. This song has a vintage feel that speaks to the 1960s era's intricacies and simple lyricism that make this song both a remembrance and an instant classic.
Throughout the song, the singer seems to be obsessed with his lover, resulting in the song's repetitive lyrics. The constant questioning of whether they were together and the confusion that the singer mentions builds out the complexity of their relationship. The song's tone changes in the last verse when the singer notes that he hopes they can be together once again. These haunting lyrics touch on the complexity of relationships and love, but also the constant need to put some feelings to rest for one's own well-being.
