Dreamer
The Jackets Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Make a wish when you see the falling star
To kill the distance between us, you're so far
I can't even count the miles
Another world where I always was a guest
The biggest word that was locked inside my head
Broke away and reached the heart

Maybe I'm dreamer
Whoa whoa whoa
Maybe I got it wrong
But I like this feeling
Whoa whoa whoa
I'm not afraid anymore

I can't explain why I'm staring at the phone
As if you are there inside
We walk the bridges of sudden midnight calls
Don't ask where are we going I don't know
But I feel direction's right

Maybe I'm dreamer
Whoa whoa whoa
Maybe I got it wrong
But I like this feeling
Whoa whoa whoa
Too good to believe it
whoa whoa whoa
But I'm gonna risk for sure
Yeah maybe I'm a dreamer
Whoa whoa whoa

It's like a win
The raffle
Like trampoline
In your hall
It's like a storm
Or deluge
It comes and breaks
Everything you knew
Everything you ever knew

It's like a win
The raffle
Like trampoline
In your hall
It's like a storm
Or deluge
It comes and breaks
Everything you knew
Everything you ever knew

Maybe I'm dreamer
Maybe I got it wrong
But I like this feeling
But I'm gonna risk for sure

Maybe I'm dreamer
Whoa whoa whoa
Maybe I got it wrong
But I like this feeling
Whoa whoa whoa
Maybe I'm dreamer, dreamer
Whoa whoa whoa
But I like this feeling

Whoa whoa whoa
I'm not afraid anymore

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Jackets' song "Dreamer" speak of the distance between two people and the longing to bridge that gap. The singer wishes upon a falling star to aid their efforts to reach the person who feels far away. They imagine an alternate reality where they are always a guest of the other, indicating a desire for closer connection. The biggest word locked inside their head, perhaps an unspoken declaration of love, has been released and reached the heart, possibly indicating that the distance is no longer just physical, but emotional as well.

Despite the unknown answers to questions such as why they are staring at their phone or where they are going, the singer feels the direction is right and the sudden midnight calls over bridges indicate a sense of adventure and willingness to take risks. They acknowledge that they may be a dreamer, but they like the feeling and are no longer afraid. The words "maybe I got it wrong" and "too good to believe it" suggest a possible skepticism or fear of disappointment but the lyrics continue to convey a sense of hopefulness.

The repetition of the phrases "it's like a win" and "everything you ever knew" highlight how the singer's world is changing and how their perceptions are being challenged. The storm and deluge imagery indicate a breaking down of old structures and beliefs, and a re-evaluation of priorities. Ultimately, the song is about taking risks and embracing the feeling of being a dreamer, despite the possibility of getting it wrong.

Hugs Trig Fardust
