Prayer Will Change Things for You
The Jackson Southernaires Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh I know prayer, will change, things for...

Yooouuu; I know prayer, will change, things for you, yooouuu
(When you) Kneel, down in prayer
(You can) Leave your burdens there
Oh, praaaaayer will change, things for you, things for you

My mother, and my father, they taught me to pray, oh yeah
They said son, you should pray, each and everyday
They told me Jesus, will fix it for you
And I know He knows, just what to do, oohh

Praaaaayer will change, things for you, things for you

Oh I know prayer, will change, things for...

Yooouuu; I know prayer, will change, things for you, yooouuu
(When you) Kneel, down in prayer
(You can) Leave your burdens there
Oh, praaaaayer will change, things for you, things for you

They put Paul, and Silas in jail, they didn't have no one, to go their bail
The Bible said at midnight, they sang and they prayed, and suddenly, an earthquake came
The doors came open, and they walked through
That oughta show you what prayer will do, oooohhh

Praaaaayer will change, things for you, things for you

I know prayer

Prayer changes things
(I'm a living witness today)
Prayer changes things
(If you go down on your knees)

Prayer changes things
(And let God have control)
Prayer changes things
(You can be a witness that prayer will)
Prayer changes things
(You can be a witness that prayer will)
Prayer changes things
(You can be a witness that prayer will)
Prayer changes things
(Can a get, one more witness that prayer will)
Prayer changes things

Lead (ENDING)
Oooooohhhh, I know

Praaaaayer will change, things for you, things for yoooouuuuuu.

Overall Meaning

The Jackson Southernaires's song Prayer Will Change Things for You speaks to the power of prayer and how it can change situations for individuals. The first verse talks about how prayer can alleviate burdens and change circumstances for everyone who believes. The second verse talks about how the artist's parents taught him how to pray daily and trust that Jesus will solve his problems. The chorus reiterates that prayer has immense power and that believers need only to kneel down in prayer and leave their burdens there.

The song's verses convey different stories of how prayer has been effective in the Bible. The lyrics mention Paul and Silas, who were imprisoned and prayed so fervently that an earthquake occurred, granting them freedom. This reference reinforces the message that regardless of the severity of an individual's situation, prayer can be impactful and ultimately lead to positive outcomes.
