Danelle Leverett and Susie Brown met while at a songwriters' concert in Nashville, Tennessee. After being introduced to each other by songwriter Kris Bergsnes, they began writing songs together and later decided to form a duo, also by suggestion of Bergsnes. According to the Wildflower Songfacts, they chose to name themselves The JaneDear Girls because it was "feminine and all-American."
The duo signed with Reprise Records Nashville division. John Rich (of Big & Rich) signed on as their record producer, and began mentoring them as well. In mid-2010, Reprise released the duo's debut single, "Wildflower." The song was a Top 15 hit on the Hot Country Songs charts. The album's second single, "Shotgun Girl," was released to country radio on March 21, 2011, and debuted on the Hot Country Songs chart at number 55 and re-entered as a single at 58.
In early 2011, the duo received their first nominations at Academy of Country Music Awards including Top Vocal Duo and Top New Vocal Duo or Group. The awards were later awarded to Sugarland and The Band Perry, respectively.

I see what I want but the door is locked
And you don't even know I'm lookin'
Over there hangin' with all your friends
But you're gonna see me walkin' in
And this time you ain't gonna miss me
'Cause I'm comin', I'm comin' over
I'm gettin' closer, game over
Sugar, you're gonna want it, (sugar) you're gonna need it
Wait 'til you see how good this is
(Sugar) you're gonna feel it, (sugar) you're gonna get it
Right there, smack down on your lips
Sweet, little innocent trying to taste the peppermint
You're the one I want, come and kiss
I want, I want, I want sugar
From you
Boy, I'm setting my sights on you
And you can bet by the time I'm through
You're not gonna know what hit ya
'Cause I'm comin', I'm comin' over
I'm gettin' closer, game over
Sugar, you're gonna want it, (sugar) you're gonna need it
Wait 'til you see how good this is
(Sugar) you're gonna feel it, (sugar) you're gonna get it
Right there, smack down on your lips
Sweet, little innocent trying to taste the peppermint
You're the one I want, come and kiss
I want, I want, I want sugar
From you
That's right, sugar from you
You're gonna crave it, you can't resist it
You gotta have it, why'd ya taste it?
Sugar, you're gonna want it, (sugar) you're gonna need it
Wait 'til you see how good this is
(Sugar) you're gonna feel it, (sugar) you're gonna get it
Right there, smack down on your lips
Sweet, little innocent trying to taste the peppermint
You're the one I want, come and kiss
I want, I want, I want sugar
I want, I want, I want sugar
From you
The lyrics to The JaneDear Girls' song "Sugar" are about a girl who is smitten with a boy and is determined to get his attention. She compares herself to a kid in a candy shop who sees what she wants but can't get it because the door is locked. The boy she is interested in is hanging out with his friends, but she is determined to catch his eye and make him want her. She sets her sights on him and plans to make him crave her like sugar. By the end of the song, she has succeeded in winning him over.
One interpretation of the lyrics is that they're about pursuing someone who initially seems unattainable but who ultimately becomes captivated by the singer's charm and confidence. The candy and sugar references suggest that the singer sees the object of her affection as something sweet and desirable. The line "you're the one I want, come and kiss" reinforces the idea that the singer is taking control of the situation and making the first move.
