After a brief run as a recording-only project based in Austin, founding vocalist David Yow, bassist David Wm. Sims and guitarist Duane Denison relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 1989, finding kindred spirits in recording engineer Steve Albini and the Touch and Go Records imprint. With the addition of drummer Mac McNeilly, they began operating as a live band, expanding their following beyond Chicago's alternative scene into an international audience. Drummer Jim Kimball replaced McNeilly late in 1996, and was himself replaced by Brendan Murphy two years later.
Despite releasing a split single with leading alt-rockers Nirvana and signing to Capitol Records, the band failed to find commercial success amid the alternative rock explosion of the 1990s, and disbanded in 1999. Their reunion from 2008 to 2010 and following tour enjoyed positive responses from audiences and critics.
In October 2013, The Jesus Lizard were set to play at the All Tomorrow's Parties event Release the Bats in Melbourne, Australia. They cancelled this show due to "unforeseen circumstances."

Glamorous
The Jesus Lizard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Now hummin' a different tune
Oh, this is a job for a stupid man
Smoke it down to the filter and put it out on your hand
Them cops was lined up about a week long all down the road
True crime homosexual gangster men were, were piled up on my living room floor
Well I'm gonna get my own rifle down, and point it on in your eye
And huff a big long breath, and shoot it
I'll call the cops on my own self, figure out a way to please those men
I'll play detective, I'll play bloodhound, sniffin' up clues with my nose in the mud
Down here in my shantytown, leave you alone, for the rest of my life
By the time I got my ass up off the grass and on the sidewalk
Made my way toward the house, well
I realized they made their way home
I know this shit will continue
The Jesus Lizard's song Glamorous contains abstract lyrics that can be difficult to interpret, but they seem to describe a nightmarish scenario of violence and confusion. The song conjures up images of law enforcement, crime, homosexuality, and gun violence. The singer of the song seems to be a troubled, desperate individual who is searching for some kind of meaning or resolution in his life. He appears to be struggling with his own identity and desires, as well as with the expectations and judgments of others.
The opening lines of the song, "Well, they called me a little so and so and so, yeah / Now hummin' a different tune," set the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The singer seems to be rebelling against the expectations of his peers and society in general. The line "Oh, this is a job for a stupid man" suggests that he is aware of his own limitations and shortcomings. The next line, "Smoke it down to the filter and put it out on your hand," is a vivid image of self-destructive behavior.
