We are a thing that came out of a few chance meetings at Sydney University. You see, Heather and Hayley had been playing music together for a while. Inevitably came the journey south from Byron - being their place of youth - to Sydney for a foray into higher education. Nik and Sam were studying at Sydney University also. And you know, for some reason you just meet people...
We don't have a manifesto as such, but we do have definite intentions in what we do. We wish to play pop, but with a recognizable element of self-awareness. We wish to be emotional, but with a sense of certainty that our audiences won't walk away thinking that we take ourselves too seriously. What is paramount is an attempt to push this thing called the culture industry in some direction which makes it more human. (I guess this is all too ambitious but oh well... We do try)
Heather studies piano at the conservatorium and reads a bit too much Russian literature. Hayley looks toward her personal canon of pop ballads for guidance in all situations and believes we must return to the way life was prior to the poker machine epidemic. Nik is a science student who imbues his drumming with formulas and mathematical complexities. Sam is a country music-playing, Marx-spouting communist with a love of all things meaningfully subversive.
The Jezabels have released 3 EPs: Dark Storm (2010), The Man is Dead (2009) and She's So Hard (2009).
Their debut album Prisoner was released in September 2011. The Jezabels won the 2012 ARIA Award for Best Independent Release for their album, Prisoner.

Endless Summer
The Jezabels Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For your never-ending wave,
For our passage to arise,
How can I explain it?
Yeah.
You came home for the endless summer,
On the white, saw a different color,
In my mind, you're the ephemeral kind.
Never too late to be touched by,
The feasting tendrils of the night,
Now left to ponder your devotions,
Now left imagining a time.
You came home for the endless summer,
Watch me go paint a famous warrior,
Of the light, you were the strongest follower,
In my mind ??? you are an endless summer!
An endless summer in my mind,
An endless summer in my mind,
An endless summer in my mind.
Yeah, I get low and black witches hold my hand,
Yeah, I get low, feel no one understands,
Now mistakes, make mantelpieces bend,
Now, black cinders, black cinder til the end.
You came home for the endless summer,
Watch me go, paint a different color,
Of my life, you were the deepest lover,
Stay with me, here in the endless summer!
An endless summer in my mind.
An endless summer in my mind.
An endless summer in my mind.
The Jezabels's song "Endless Summer" speaks of longing and nostalgia for a time that has passed. The lyrics suggest a desire to hold onto a memory, a feeling, or a person who has left. The singer is waiting for something that will never come, symbolized by the "never-ending wave." The wave becomes a metaphor for the inability to stop the passage of time and the inevitability of change. The line "How can I explain it?" repeats throughout the song, suggesting the difficulty of articulating these complex emotions.
The second verse introduces the theme of memory and the tricks our minds can play on us. The singer recalls a person who came home for the "endless summer" but left again, leaving behind a secret to repeat. The line "In my mind, you're the ephemeral kind" acknowledges the transience of human relationships and the fleeting nature of memory. The reference to "feasting tendrils of the night" suggests the dark forces that can influence our memories and emotions.
The final verse brings together the various themes of the song. The singer acknowledges feeling low and isolated, but finds comfort in the memory of the person who came home for the endless summer. The line "Watch me go, paint a different color" suggests a desire to escape the past and create something new. The closing refrain of "An endless summer in my mind" suggests a bittersweet acceptance of the past and a willingness to hold onto it as a source of comfort and inspiration.

Definitely feel like the Jezabels deserved much greater popularity during this period, not to say they didn't kill it. And not to say its over either.
@itsirkeel
I have this song on repeat now, and it's nearly 2023! They're doing a new tour, and singing this song again after a long break and solo time!!
@and__lam1152
I concur ... if they came through in the 90s they wouldn't been much bigger back when pubs were full n live music still was pumping
@heinrichVSP
Normally I focus on the guitar in a song, but this band I listen to the drums. The drummer is incredible.
@IvanKukusev
The drums are reminding me on The Smashing Pumpkins

Can I just say this band are once in a lifetime memorable. There's so much crap out there now, this stuff is a blessing to me.
