Gloria
The Jimi Hendrix Classic Singles Collection Vol. 2 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Two-three-four, oh
Gloria, oh, oh

And I try to sing this song, I
I try to stand up
But I can't find my feet
I try, I try to speak up
But only in you I'm complete

Gloria in te domine
Gloria exultate
Gloria, Gloria
Oh Lord, loosen my lips, loosen my

And I try to sing this song, I
I try to get in
But I can't find the door
The door is open
You're standing there
You let me in

Gloria in te domine
Gloria exultate
Oh Lord, if I had anything
Anything at all, I'd give it to you
I, I'd give it to you, to you
Give it to you
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh

Hey, this is Red Rocks

Oh, oh, oh, oh

Overall Meaning

The song "Gloria" from The Jimi Hendrix Classic Singles Collection Vol. 2 is a cover of the original song by Van Morrison's band Them. However, Hendrix's rendition of the song was unique in its own way. Hendrix opens the song with a count-in, ushering in a driving rhythm with a catchy guitar riff. The lyrics in the song contain spiritual overtones, with references to the phrase "Gloria in te domine," which translates to "Glory to you, Lord" in Latin.

Hendrix's falsetto vocals and use of call-and-response technique bring a distinct emotional intensity to the song. The lyrics portray a sense of longing and a yearning for the divine. Hendrix sings "And I try to sing this song, I try to get in, but I can't find the door, the door is open, you're standing there, you let me in," which could signify a pursuit of a higher power or a desire for acceptance and grace. The song builds up to a frenetic climax, with Hendrix's explosive guitar playing and soulful singing.

I remember as a pre teen, I had as gifts two amazing cds: One was the Nirvana discography that a friend of mine made for me in one cd.... I didn’t realize how big of a gift was once I’ve played it all on the PlayStation..... My mind was flying.
Then the second amazing gift was 2 discs of Jimi Hendrix.
My friend has found them IN THE TRASH! And gave it to me.
One has 2 cds, live concerts with featurings and songs you won’t find on internet.
The other Jimi Hendrix cd is now in a guy’s room I’ve slept with obsessed with Jimi Hendrix and he kidnapped that cd. I know one day I will go back to Italy to take it. 😂
Jimi’s Music was naturally healing something in my soul, he had the skills to make you fly and making feeling you alive and free.
When I’ve heard Jimi the first time I’ve stopped talking and thinking until the cd was finished.
You don’t have rush when you listen to Jimi Hendrix, you properly enjoy his music and voice.
I felt like when you smoke weed, I felt high with his music before even discovering weed. 😆
He really changed the music.......
