John Butler works this 11 string hard, creating a sound that is straight up genius. Rapid finger-picking, percussive hammers and the crispness of this song are impressive. Heard him at Whistler - unbelievable.

Ocean
The John Butler Trio Lyrics

[Instrumental]
As the lyrics are instrumental, there are no words to interpret in this case. However, the instrumental piece Ocean by The John Butler Trio is a beautiful and powerful display of virtuosic acoustic guitar playing. The song is a combination of a variety of guitar techniques such as fingerpicking, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and percussive slapping of the guitar body. The melody starts off with a slow soothing pace and builds up to a crescendo of frenetic strumming, culminating in a flurry of notes that leaves listeners feeling a sense of catharsis.

I feel you, man.
Lost my one and only really close friend Max, close in much the same way as you described your friend.
He succumbed at the age of 36, quite unexpectedly, to undiagnosed cancer in the tissues around his heart.
It broke me completely for a long long time.
About two years later his mother phoned me, she’d found my number on the back of an envelope when she’d finally got the strength to start sorting through his stuff, it’d been in boxes in her garage since he’d died.
She just talked, picked me up, put me on my feet, gave me strength and told me how to live again.
How she knew just what to say and how she’d had the strength herself to worry about how I was doing I’ll never know.
Since that day I’ve tried to live life in a way that I know Max would’ve been proud of, to be kinder than I’d have been otherwise, to be more forgiving like he was, to listen more and speak with more forethought as he did.
Most of all to share the joy of being alive and to laugh at myself, as he did.
That’s his legacy and what an amazing, enduring, gift it’s been.

I'm 61 years old and have a very broad range in music taste. This is the piece of music I would take to my desert island. I would never tire of listening to it. A true masterpiece that literally gives me goosebumps every time.
