SUNNY
The Jordans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Walked with no one and talked with no one
And I had nothing but shadows
Then one morning you passed
And I brightened at last
Now I greet the day and complete the day
With the sun in my heart
All my worry blew away
When you taught me how to say

Grab your coat and get your hat
Leave your worry on the doorstep
Just direct your feet
To the sunny side of the street
Can't you hear a pitter-pat?
And that happy tune is your step
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street

I used to walk in the shade
With those blues on parade
But I'm not afraid
This Rover crossed over

If I never have a cent
I'd be rich as Rockefeller
Gold dust at my feet

On the sunny side of the street
Grab your street

Overall Meaning

In the beginning of the song, the singer is feeling alone and dismal, describing his life as having "nothing but shadows" and "walking with no one and talking with no one." However, the singer's mood becomes instantly uplifted when he sees someone - the person whom he is singing to - and he claims that "one morning you passed / And I brightened at last." From then on, he faces each day with a positive attitude and sees the world in a different light. He describes himself as having "the sun in my heart" and that all his worries have vanished since he met this person.

The chorus of the song is an expression of this newfound joy, urging the listener to "grab your coat and get your hat / Leave your worry on the doorstep / Just direct your feet to the sunny side of the street." The singer wants the person he is singing to, and anyone else listening, to feel the way he does now that he has this new perspective on life. He claims that "can't you hear a pitter-pat? / And that happy tune is your step / Life can be so sweet / On the sunny side of the street." He acknowledges that life can be tough and that it's easy to get pulled into the blues parade, but he's no longer afraid because he's crossed over to the sunny side. Even if he never has any money, he feels rich and content just walking on this bright and cheerful side of the street.

The Jordans, uma das tres melhores bandas da sua época

Em 2022, comentando : Esse, foi juntamente com The Jet Blacks, The Bells, The Beggers, The Gordon And Black Joe, The Clevers/Os Incríveis, The Pop´s, The Red Snakes, Os Carbonos, Os Impossíveis, Os Populares, Parada 5, The Fire Boys, The Crazy Boys, The Supersonics/The Terribles/The Fevers, The Jones, The Killers, The Big Seven/Renato & Seus Blue Caps, etc. um dos grandes conjuntos instrumentais brasileiros! É o que eu costumo dizer : Infelizmente, a juventude de um certo tempo para cá, não teve e nem terá mais, o privilégio de curtir músicas instrumentais e conjuntos instrumentais iguais a esses! Os caras eram feras! Incomparáveis!
