The Judy's released three official full-length albums in their career: Washarama (1981, regarded by most fans as their masterstroke), The Moo Album (1985) and the limited-release Land Of Plenty (1991), all on the band's own Wasted Talent label. The albums were augmented by two 1980 EPs (Teenage Hang-Ups, recorded while the boys were still in high school, and The Wonderful World of Appliances and the single "Girl of 1000 Smells" (backed with a Russian version). Both Washarama (coupled with Wonderful World of Appliances) and The Moo Album (also containing Bean's 1983 solo EP Modomusic) made their CD debuts (alongside a reissue of Land Of Plenty) through the reactivated Wasted Talent in December 2007. Taught him to whistle to sing and dance and run
His legs they were fourteen yards long his ears they were broad
Round the world in half a day on him I could ride
Sing terry O' day
I buyed me a little bull he was four inches high
Everybody feared him who ever heard him cry
That all the walls in London came tumblin' to the ground
Sing terry O day
Sing taddle day
I buyed me a flock of sheep thought they were all wethers
Sometimes they yielded wool sometimes yielded feathers
I know mine are the very best sheep for yield and increase
Every full and turn of the moon they bring forth lambs and geese
Sing terry O day
Sing taddle day
I buyed me a little glass colored it was green
In it was all the wonders man has ever seen
I put in my pocket tied up with a cloth
Cried and cried the day I found that it had been lost
Sing terry O day
Sing taddle day
I buyed me a little dog its color it was brown
Taught him to whistle to sing and dance and run
His legs they were fourteen yards long his ears they were broad
Round the world in half a day on him I could ride
Sing terry O day
Sing terry O day
The song "Dogs" by The Judy's tells the story of a person who, over time, acquires various animals and objects. The lyrics reveal a playful and fanciful imagination that the singer possesses. The beginning verse speaks of acquiring and training a little brown dog to whistle, sing, dance, and run. However, the dog is described as having legs 14 yards long and ears that are broad, making it possible to ride him across the world in half a day. This particular lyric seems to suggest that the singer has a grand vision of what they can achieve with their new pet.
The next verse describes the acquisition of a little bull, only four inches high, but with a powerful and melodious voice. When the bull begins to bellow, it causes the walls of London to tumble down. This verse can be interpreted as a metaphor for the power that can come from something seemingly insignificant, especially when it finds its true voice. The singer's growing collection continues with a flock of sheep that produces both wool and feathers and is known for yielding an increase in lambs and geese with each turn of the moon. Finally, the singer acquires a little glass, colored green, which contains all the wonders of the world. The glass is treated as a precious possession, and the singer is devastated when it is lost, realizing too late what they had lost.
Overall, "Dogs" appears to be a whimsical song that is meant to be interpreted through the lens of a child's imagination. The lyrics tell a story that progresses from something small, playful, and whimsical, such as a little brown dog, to something grand and all-encompassing, such as a glass with all the wonders of the world. The lyrics suggest that anything is possible if you use your imagination.
