Jeff Heiskell, the singer, and later members Dave Jenkins and Paul Noe formed the totally unknown but great Doubters Club that recorded for the Disgraceland label in 1995 and then broke up when Jenkins and Noe ran off to Nashville to form a (terrible) mod-rock band that failed (miserably). Jeff reformed the Judybats in 2000 with the album "'00" and subsequently rocked Knoxville, Chicago, Baltimore, and all points in-between on numerous small tours promoting their album and their later EP "Six Pack of New Tracks".
Currently, Jeff is working with Heiskell, a band formed with Mike Hairrell (percussion), Doug Hairrell (guitar), and Rob Bell (bass), all members of The second iteration of the Judybats.
Our Story
The Judybats Lyrics

It's a short one but it's a hard harsh read
Between the lines a little aching need
We're a strange arrangement
No strings
And the music we make is serpentine
And bittersweet
In my youth, you know
I watch you fall
Twisting turning growing small
You're a roomful of sorrow
A spoonful of joy
Another infidelity, another pin
Another golden glitter boy
CHORUS
I want you, I know it's crazy but I
Really wanna leave you too
I want you
Boy oh boy you bring me joy
And then you mke me blue
I love to love you
I'm a fool
You're callous and you're cold
And oh so cruel
I'm starting to forget things
Faces, names
Games played, plans laid
Surely there were promises made
Good love is easy to find but
It's hard to keep
And though I hate it when you wake
I still love to watch you sleep
CHORUS
Remember the early days
When nickes were dimes and a dollar
Took us everywhere
I don't think I ever combed my hair
Is this our story
Is this where the loving starts
In the stillness
The staring, the hardening of hearts
We're a strange arrangement
No strings
This is not my place
These are not mythings, it's not my way
The pain love brings
CHORUS

The Judybats's song "Our Story" is about the ups and downs of a romantic relationship. The lyrics describe the complexity of their love story, being a "strange arrangement" without strings, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it. The beginning of the song warns listeners that their story is a hard, harsh read, indicating that the relationship is not perfect or idyllic.
Throughout the song, the singer expresses that she loves to love him, but also admits to being a fool for loving someone callous, cold, and cruel. The chorus is a conflicting message of wanting to stay with him and wanting to leave him, highlighting the ambivalence and confusion one often experiences in relationships that are not easy to maintain.
The song ends with a sense of nostalgia and reflection on the early days of their relationship when everything was simpler and easier. Ultimately, the song highlights the difficult reality of love, the pain it can bring, and the choices we need to make to find our own happiness.
