Stop Stop
The Julie Ruin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm getting tired
one thing
at a time
beep beep
I'm coming through
it's just me
Brigadoon
can't decide
to the sea
to the side
day one
twenty five
doors are closing
for the second time
oh god
I'm getting so tired
can't breathe and I think I'm gonna die now
I left a job that was hard to find
I called you on the phone and you said I'd be fine
I crawl towards the words and just cannot say
I make my living fake forgiving
woooooooooh!
what
stops you from being sure?
I can hear you fine
I can hear you fine
stop stop
I'm getting tired
one thing
at a time
beep beep
I can't decide
to the sue
to the cide
oh god
I'm getting so tired
I can't breathe and I think I'm gonna die now
I left a job that was hard to find
I called you on the phone and you said I'd be fine
I crawl towards the door and the words won't come
I make my living over giving
woooooooooh!
oh god
I'm getting so tired
I can't breathe and I know I'm gonna die now
these tiny moments they are all I have
a twenty dollar bill it just makes me laugh
I call you on the phone but the moment's all gone
I make my living over giving
woooooooooh!
The Julie Ruin's song Stop Stop is about feeling exhausted and overwhelmed by the pressures of daily life. The lyrics describe a sense of feeling lost and indecisive about what to do next, with the repetition of "stop stop" emphasizing a desire to pause and take a breath. The song touches on themes of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety, with the line "I can't breathe and I think I'm gonna die now" adding a sense of urgency to the emotions being expressed.
Despite the heavy subject matter, there's a sense of determination and resilience in the lyrics as well. The line "I left a job that was hard to find, I called you on the phone and you said I'd be fine" suggests that even in the face of uncertainty, there are still people and moments of support that can give us the strength to keep going. The repeated refrain of "I make my living over giving" adds another layer to the song's themes, playing with the idea of the expectations that are put on us to always be productive and selfless.
Overall, Stop Stop is a poignant and relatable track that captures the feeling of being overwhelmed by life's challenges, but also finding strength and resilience in the face of those challenges.
