Thought it was going to be really funny but it felt more like commentary on the southern church life. Felt like a good glimpse into the different types of personalities and after living where I lived in the south kind of is like that. Just because someone has a big church doesn't mean they're 100%. Just because you go to church and you're labeling yourself as a Christian doesn't mean that your faultless. And just because someone wrote something that's like a social commentary doesn't mean it's blasphemous. I think we all need to reflect on money in churches and the emphasis on appearance. I thought it was well done but I think a lot about church culture. Seen all this. Pastors with families on tinder, crazy marketing to try to get you into church... Actually made me reflect more on how difficult it must be to be a Pastor and all the psychological and emotional challenges that come along with it. It was funny but it was definitely a reflection.

She's a talented actress, but she is very far away from being a national treasure. Sterling is a bit more famous and have more credit to him and would be more deserving of that term, but I feel like you need to do a bit more to deserve that title.

I literally watched this until the end for the redemption of plot. I want to know why Sterling Brown took this script. You know when you see his acting he is a gifted artist and I simply cannot believe a better script did not land in his lap. I am in shock that this script even made it to the big screen. When I left the theatre I made this same comment to the greeters and they said many people were expressing this sentiment when they left.

I saw this trailer in theaters. I was rolling my eyes for the first 40 seconds, then there was a point where Regina Hall looks into the camera wit disdain and I was sold. Then they show Serling k brown throwing fastballs the rest of the trailer. I can’t wait to see this.

I saw this last night and it was pretty funny, yet anti-climactic. Sadly, even on National Cinema Day, few people in a very crowded theater opted to buy tickets to this one. I finished a very full showing of Jaws (justifiably so) only to go into this with maybe 10-15 viewers in the audience, and I think some of them walked out.

Locations close to African Americans dwellings were sold out. ALL subjective to your locations im sure. Love my people but tend to goto suburbs cause I cant hear the dialogue with my peeps! HAHHAHAAH talking to the screen.... lol

@Leatherneck Sears I hear ya and I’m sure you aren’t wrong. I didn’t take a roll call but, sadly, there’s not a huge African American population in my area. I noticed only one in the auditorium, having arrived early and seeing most everyone who came in...also since he sat right next to me. Funny enough, I had to change seats after a restroom break because he was texting throughout the first half, or whenever it was I got up. I hate that but I hope he didn’t take it personally for the wrong reasons!

I saw this movie on Saturday. It is more of a satire than a comedy. I thought Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown did a good job. If you are looking for a Tyler Perry Ma Dear Oh Happy Day feeling this ain't for you. Please do not be offended because your religious feathers are going to get ruffled. There were a lot of flabbergasted church folks who came looking for a comedy. The thought provoking openness of exposing and satirizing the shortcomings, abuses, pain, hypocrisies, oppression, vulnerabilities, deifying, self servicing, and abusive power of leaders was sort of refreshing. Lets not forget "The Stepford Wives" i.e. first ladies who are hypnotized to stand by there man for the sake of there spiritual sons and daughters. If we are open minded we can see how this not only affects the church but those outside of organized religion..

I watched it again, as I said I felt this movie was based on the late Bishop Eddie Long. This movie was based in Atlanta, just like Bishop long, it was a Mega Church , just like Bishop Long, he messed with boys whom was poor, just like Bishop Long. He would rent the Georgia World Confess Center at Easter time he would talked against Homosexuality and he didn't repent, he settled out of court, the only difference is Bishop passed before he was able to get his church back, and his wife left him.

I thought it was gonna be funny until it started to look very similar to a real story that happened in Atlanta so I googled it and it’s loosely based on the ordeal that happened to the late bishop Eddie Long . So I wonder cause it was kind of funny did they get backlash for this then again it could have been the widow who approved it.

Would love to get honest feedback from church members….

I didn’t see the movie yet. I only seen the trailer. Right now I’m neutral about the movie but would love to hear your opinion.
From the trailer, it does appear Hollywood has made a mockery of the black churches. But to be honest, do you believe the churches have given them plenty of ammunition to work with? Most of the things that goes on in these churches are not biblical and are not of God. I love God with all my heart but learned to disassociate myself from man made religion with their customs, traditions, lights, cameras and action.
Most of what I see in churches are a theatrical performance while using the name of the Lord. I’m asking out of sincerity because I’m seeing a lot of church people taking offense over this movie.
What in this movie do you think is inaccurate or offensive?
If you think Hollywood is making a mockery out of the churches, is Hollywood the problem or should the church reevaluate itself and stop giving the world ammunition to make them look foolish?

This script did such a tragically poor job of having redemption to any of the threads they might have been trying to achieve but for the life of me I am not sure why they would want such an awful soul plummeting ending for the characters.

@Diane Christin But that kinda rings true with reality. In reality, there is not always a happy ending. You can't commit horrible acts to people and then shake it for Jesus and say amen and expect to have a blessed life. With spirituality/ religion, isn't it typically told that salvation comes only after reflection and repentance/ taking accountability? These characters took no real accountability for their actions and tried to cover it up with religious jargon and gimmicks, so therefore there was no redemption for them. I think that's fair.

The movie is about people putting on a show to appear a certain way and how this mask we sometimes wear is taken to its boiling point. Deeply held beliefs keep this mask on despite all the harm it causes.

This movie exposes the naked truth of what goes on in megachurches. The fancy and expensive Lifestyles lived by these Mega preachers that only see the congregation as a financial gain. The representation of the movie displaying a GA pastor needs to be revealed because too many were hurt by the secret. And sadly, too many people still support these type of pastors who are committing these types of wrongdoings. Overall, great movie.

I am white and admittedly don't know much about black churches but was this a bad man or a good man I just thought the movie fell flat it was pretty boring I couldn't figure out whether out to love them or hate them it seems like he really had a good heart something missing in this movie but I don't know what it was. This was a movie dealing with the evils of the Catholic church I know exactly where I was and what I should be thinking. And they're both such good actors.

Only good thing about this movie was Regina Halls performance. She was amazing, especially her last monologue. But the movie lacked a specific POV or a unique POV, and SKBs acting talent was wasted on this caricature.
