Wishing you'd come home
Well I'm saying I'll be fine
While you're kissing me,
Me goodbye
But you don't think it's good enough
And I don't really want to waste that stuff
When I'm down & feeling so low
She's a bomb
She's a bomb
Holding on my heart
But you're tearing it, it apart
But you don't think
It's good enough
And I don't really want to waste that stuff
'Cause I want you to know
When I'm down & feeling so low
...Feeling so low
She's a bomb
She's a bomb
But you don't think
It's good enough
And I don't really want to waste that stuff
'Cause I want you to know
When I'm down & feeling oh-so low
She's a bomb
She's a bomb
The lyrics to The Kicks' song "Bomb" depict a feeling of heartbreak and confusion over someone who has left. The singer is standing by the phone, waiting for their loved one to come home. However, in reality, the person has already left, and the singer is just fooling themselves into thinking that they will be okay. The line, "But you don't think it's good enough," implies that the singer is trying to convince their ex that they will be fine without them, but deep down they know that they are not.
The chorus, "She's a bomb," could be interpreted in a few different ways. On one hand, it could be seen as a metaphor for the ex-partner, who has come into the singer's life and blown it up before leaving. On the other hand, it could be seen as a metaphor for the singer themselves, who is "exploding" with emotions and struggling to keep it all together. The repetition of the line, "And I don't really want to waste that stuff," could suggest that the singer is trying not to let their emotions get the best of them and waste their energy on someone who has already left.
Overall, "Bomb" is a poignant song about heartbreak and the struggle to move on when someone you loved has left. The Kicks use vivid imagery and a catchy chorus to convey the deep emotions at play.
