For Reasons Unknown
The Killers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I pack my case, I check my face
I look a little bit older
I look a little bit colder
With one deep breath, and one big step
I move a little bit closer, I move a little bit closer
For reasons unknown

I caught my stride, I flew and flied
I know if destiny's kind, I've got the rest on my mind
Well, my heart
It don't beat, it don't beat the way it used to
And my eyes
They don't see you no more
And my lips
They don't kiss, they don't kiss the way they used to
And my eyes don't recognize you no more

For reasons unknown
For reasons unknown

It was an open chair
We sat down in the open chair
I said, if destiny's kind, I've got the rest on my mind
But my heart
It don't beat, it don't beat the way it used to
And my eyes
They don't see you no more
And my lips
They don't kiss, they don't kiss the way they used to
And my eyes don't recognize you at all

For reasons unknown

I said, my heart
It don't beat, it don't beat the way it used to

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "For Reasons Unknown" by The Killers describe a journey of self-discovery and change. The singer seems to be leaving behind his old self and moving towards a new path in life. He packs his bags and checks his face, acknowledging that he looks older and colder than before. The line "For reasons unknown" suggests that he is uncertain of why he is taking this journey, but he feels compelled to do so nonetheless. As he takes a step forward, he feels a sense of progress towards his destination.

The chorus repeats the same image of the singer's heart, eyes, and lips not being able to function the way they used to. This may symbolize the singer's detachment from his old life and his struggle to adjust to the changes that he is experiencing. The line "For reasons unknown" implies that he is still searching for answers and trying to make sense of the transformation he is going through.

Towards the end of the song, the singer sits down in an open chair with someone else, and repeats the same chorus about his heart not beating, his eyes not recognizing the other person, and his lips not kissing the way they used to. This could suggest that the singer's journey is not just physical, but also emotional and relational. He may be struggling with his relationships and connections as he undergoes this transformation. The end of the song leaves the question unresolved, as the singer is still searching for answers "for reasons unknown."

@@guapoboy101 it’s okay to feel like you’re in a black hole :) people fail to realize the only way you heal true hurt is too actually feel the hurt. It’s the only way to heal. Mourn, be upset, ask questions, cry and be completely sad. Eventually it’ll get to a point that you’ll feel like you’ll never get over it. Days pass and weeks and you’ll slowly feel just okay.

Hell to be honest, I even cried when I realized I finally moved on because it meant it was fully over. But I felt free. I’ve learned so much over that relationship, what I like and don’t like. Use that relationship of the past as a helping tool for your future relationships to not repeat the same mistake again :)
I’m sorry you’re hurt, but this feeling of hurt let’s you realize the love was real and that the relationship meant a lot to you. Some people either can’t come close to that feeling or will never get experience the feeling because they haven’t found love.

I know it feels like the most important person just left from your life. Please understand the most important person is yourself. Don’t ignore the feelings. And yeah, I did drink during the times I was sad, but when I saw myself rely on it I realized I had to start feeling the feelings raw and sober.
It’s uncomfortable, feelings are uncomfortable especially when you’re sad or angry. However, give your heart the chance to heal properly and mind to learn from this, it may change who you are and that’s okay
As long as you get better from who you were before and not worse

I hope this reaches you and I hope you’ll feel better through time ❣️
Healing really is through feeling and time

It goes then, without saying, that this must be one of the most under-rated songs of last decade. For Reasons unknown I guess.

You can hear Brandon's emotion and passion in his voice which is why I fucking love this song.

@jessicaabbott10

That’s how I felt about his vocals on this entire album. His vocal takes are so raw and powerful.

@gabynoriega2542

that cracking of the voice around 2:42, the emotion, does anyone else feel??

@andresarreguin7690

gaby Noriega I love that you mentioned that as its my favorite part to sing along to whilst listening to this
