When You Were Young
The Killers Lyrics

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young
Can we climb this mountain?
I don't know
Higher now than ever before
I know we can make it if we take it slow
Let's take it easy
Easy now, watch it go

We're burning down the highway skyline
On the back of a hurricane that started turning
When you were young
When you were young

And sometimes you close your eyes
And see the place where you used to live
When you were young

They say the devil's water, it ain't so sweet
You don't have to drink right now
But you can dip your feet
Every once in a little while

You sit there in your heartache
Waiting on some beautiful boy to
To save you from your old ways
You play forgiveness
Watch it now, here he comes

He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But he talks like a gentlemen
Like you imagined when you were young
(Talks like a gentlemen, like you imagined)
When you were young

I said he doesn't look a thing like Jesus
He doesn't look a thing like Jesus
But more than you'll ever know

Bands formed AFTER 1990 get a lot of grief. I know this because I am GenX and I've shoveled my share of grief on those bands.

I also think it's important for all of us to understand that rock and roll as an art form has been around nearly 70 years now, with roots in black blues that go back even further and continue to remain unacknowledged. It's important to mention all of this because for a band like The Killers (formed in 2001), they had to look back then at FIFTY years of rock and roll and figure out a way how to do something unique that nobody had ever done before.

Let's face it...the more years that go by, the harder and harder it is for rock bands to sound unique or to take us to new sonic experiences. Everything sounds alike the older we get. Part of that is the music industry not wanting to take big risks anymore on artists or bands that are not derivative of something the world is already familiar with.

But you KNOW a Killers song as soon as you hear it! Just like [insert any legacy band name here]. You may not know the name of the song or the lyrics...but you know it's The Killers.

In closing, they are an epic band who deserve to be thought of in the same stratosphere as many great bands. They introduced the world to a new sound...something unique and something iconic. And they did it at a time when a lot of great music had been laid down previous to them. Peace and love upon them...and thank you, Killers.

My boyfriend who passed away a few weeks ago sang this song when we were at a bar doing karaoke one night. Since he sang it that night, I had been trying to figure out the name of it; I finally came across it tonight. The song has so much meaning to me. We were together for five years and were both young when he sung this song. Now I just watch the video of him in my phone when he sang this song that night at the bar, wishing he was still alive, wishing that we could go back in time to when we were young. R.I.P. Chris, I'll always love you.

I remember this came out when I was 15. Going to secondary school with no care in the world. Now I'm fast approaching 30. I miss the simplicity of youth and this song is a reminder of that. Really hits hard.

I remember being in my late teens. getting dropped at my friends house and he blew me off. I was so far from home there was no walking home. I turned on the Killers CD and listened until I fell asleep on their doorstep of their apartment complex waiting.. his mom got home at 2 am and found me there. let me sleep on her couch.
That is my most vivid memory when I hear their music. lol

I got made redundant from my job I worked for 4 years at 21 and walked out of the place sitting in the car wondering wtf my next job will be and this song started playing so it always reminds me of that time. This was 15 years ago back in 2006. Damn I wish I was 21 again.
