Last Day of Magic
The Kills Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Two parties ending
What if you move?
What if you hide?
There's only so much you can miss
Before we both collide
My little hurricano
Last day of magic
Where are you?
My little tornado
My little hurricano
We're two parties
Two parties ending
I'll be the man with the broom
If you'll be the dust of the room
And there's only so much you can hide
Before I corner you
Last day of magic
Where were you?
My little tornado
My little hurricano
Last day of magic
Coming through
The eye of the storm
And I hold on to
My little tornado
My little hurricano
I'll be the man with the broom
If you'll be the dust of the room
And there's only so much you can hide
Before I corner you
Last day of magic
Put the whole ride through
The eye of the storm
In a single room
My little tornado
My little hurricano
Cavalry come
Cavalry go
Cavalry leave me alone
A little serenade, oh
A little cup of cane, oh
Last day of magic
Where were you
A little tornado
A little hurricano
A little hurricano
The Kills' song Last Day of Magic is a dark and foreboding track that seems to capture the feeling of two people facing the end of a relationship. The repeated chorus of "last day of magic, where are you?" hints at a sense of loss or desperation, perhaps because the magic of the relationship has faded away. The lyrics also portray the idea of two parties colliding, with lines like "what if you move? what if you hide? there's only so much you can miss before we both collide." The use of natural disasters such as tornadoes and hurricanes as metaphors for the relationship adds to the intensity of the song, as these forces of nature are often described as powerful and uncontrollable.

it's not even sexual tension, it's sexual anticipation with these two. wonderful 2-piece: his simultaneous bass and lead on one guitar with one brain, and her truly remarkable voice. i'm all over their sound and not alone i suppose. Jamie, Alison: if you ever read this. HI there and said praises directed to you.

One of my favorite songs ever. Came out at a very exciting time in my life. I saw them live on the no wow tour and was really into their stage act, the way they would clang their guitars against each others and displayed that magnetic, sex charged vibe on stage. When I saw them next on the midnight boom tour the audience had doubled and they still were badass, but maybe a little more chemically influenced. But thus album is their best and still sounds fresh in 2022.

The rythmic swagger and throbbing bass of T-Rex, similar vocal phrasing to Peaches, Placebo's hypnotic melodic ring, and so many other cool derivative components. Like Jagger/Richards their vocals complement each other magically. The combined production values work perfectly to propell the song to higher sonic ground. Excellent stuff.

That twangy note spiraling out after "We're two parties, two parties ending." Says it with sound. Might be the best that a relationship's going off the rails. The Kills are so cool.

There isn't enough discussion about specific moments within songs.
