Honey Pie
The King’s Singers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She was a working girl North of England way
Now she's hit the big time in the U.S.A.
And if she could only hear me, this is what I'd say

Honey Pie, you are making me crazy
I'm in love, but I'm lazy
So won't you please come home
Oh, honey pie, my position is tragic
Come and show me the magic
Of your Hollywood song

You became a legend of the silver screen
And now the thought of meeting you
Makes me weak in the knee

Oh, Honey Pie, you are driving me frantic
Sail across the Atlantic
To be where you belong
Honey pie, come back to me

Ooh, yeah
I like it like that, oh ah

I like this kind of hot kind of music
Hot kind of music
Play it to me, play it to me, Hollywood blues

Will the wind that blew her boat across the sea
Kindly send her sailing back to me?
Tee, tee, tee

Now Honey Pie you are making me crazy
I'm in love but I'm lazy
So won't you please come home
Come, come back to me, Honey Pie

Ooh, oh

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Honey Pie, Honey Pie

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Honey Pie" by The King's Singers express the nostalgic longings of someone who knew a woman before she became a Hollywood star. The song is addressed to a "working girl North of England way" who has "hit the big time in the U.S.A." Despite his love for her, the singer admits that he is "lazy," and wishes she would come home to him. He describes her as a "legend of the silver screen" and says that the thought of meeting her makes him "weak in the knee." He pleads with her to sail across the Atlantic and come back to him.

The song captures the classic Hollywood archetype of the humble, hardworking woman who rises to fame and fortune but leaves her roots and loved ones behind. The singer's love for her is rooted in her past, before she became a Hollywood celebrity, and he longs for her to return to him and her home country. The line, "Play it to me, play it to me, Hollywood blues," suggests a melancholy feeling of longing and nostalgia for a simpler time.

Overall, "Honey Pie" is a bittersweet tribute to lost love and the power of nostalgia. It evokes the romance and glamour of classic Hollywood, but also underscores the loneliness and longing that can come with fame and success.

Simply stated...By far the best performance I've ever seen. This is musical magic and, without instruments! We go from a soprano lead to a baritone lead (and I'm a big time bass guy) with flawless chorus backup & transaction and then make it group interaction...SOB! Every damn note by all octaves is SPOT ON. Though the audience obviously appreciated it, I would have been on my feet with a STANDING OVATION! Damn boys, so very, very well done!!!
