Help!
The King's Singers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the
Doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me?

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done
Before.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the
Doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being round.

Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, oh.

Overall Meaning

The song Help! by The Beatles is about the vulnerability and uncertainly that comes with growing up and facing new challenges in life. The singer starts by admitting that they need someone else's help, not just anybody, and that they feel lost and unsure. In the past, they were self-assured and didn't need anyone's help, but as they've grown older, they've realized they can't handle everything on their own. The singer acknowledges their past independence and the fact that those days are gone. They've changed their mind and are now open to receiving help.

The chorus of the song is a plea for help from someone else. The singer is feeling down and needs someone to lift them back up. They're grateful for whoever is there to support them and get them back onto solid ground. The second verse reinforces the idea that the singer's life has changed in many ways, and they feel like their independence is fading away. They still have moments of insecurity and doubt, and they realize that they need help from others more than they ever have before.
