The song "Something Wonderful" from The King and I captures the essence of unconditional love and forgiveness that Lady Thiang feels for the King. I really love the character of the king's head wife.
Anna and the King came from two different sides of the world. Anna was very western and the King was very eastern.
naturally the king and Anna had difficulty understanding each other.
the king's head wife is telling Anna that although the king is difficult to understand at times in his heart there is love.
she is doing this without being too judgmental of Anna.
she is very much like the mother Abbas in The sound of music who tells Maria "it's perfectly okay for you to love that man."

I saw the first movie made in the 1940's - she was his first wife- dozens of wives later she had fell out of favor with the king. Her son - Crown Prince Chulalongkorn with whom she loved dearly, did not respect her because his father taught him not to respect women. She was a tragic figure - see the first movie - it has more of the story behind it because it wasn't a musical. Not sure how she was portrayed in the book it's been years since I read it.
