1. The Kingpins ar… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least two bands called The Kingpins.
1. The Kingpins are a "road-tested, consumer-approved" rock quintet from Montreal, Canada, with a past as a ska unit with a brass section, organ, spy-flick guitar licks and rock-steady rhythms. The first Kingpins single, 'On the Run', won a MiMi (Montreal Independent Music Industry) award for 'Best Single' in 1995. The following year saw the dawn of their own label Stomp Records and the first Kingpins full-length, 'Watch Your Back?'. By 1997 the band was on newspaper covers and national TV, trapped between grunge and techno. The band's second album, 'Let's Go To Work' (1999), got them nationwide mainstream airplay, headline gigs all over Europe, NorthAmerica and Japan, as well as breakout slots on packages like the Warped Tour. Their third full-length, 'Plan of Action', saw them make choices. The line-up was stripped down to a five-piece, with Lorraine taking up vocal duties full-time. While maintaining solid ties to the rhythms and positive energy of ska, they explored punk, pop, new wave, moving balladry, even breakbeats. The album raced to the top of the Canadian college charts.
2. The Kingpins were a young and wild garage beat band from South London, United Kingdom, in the mid-1960s, fronted by Ray Neale. They made a handful of recordings, but never released a record at the time... not under the moniker The Kingpins anyway. They did masqurade as Those Fadin' Colours for a single on the Ember label and as Orange Seaweed for a single on Pye. Some of their recordings as The Kingpins popped up in later decades on some compilations of 1960s garage beat, freakbeat and mod proto-psychedelic mod beat, notably 'You're My Girl'.
King of the Jungle
The Kingpins Lyrics

I'm Lord of the Beasts
There ain't no creatures out there meaner than me
I rule the forests, I rule the trees
The lion see me, he get down on his knees.
From Kilimanjaro to the banks of the Nile
I live like an Emperor, 'cause that's just my style
I'm King of the Jungle,
I'm Boss of the Land
In the Sahara I'm Prince of the Sand
So when you're out there, just look and see:
Every living creature's paying homage
King of the jungle that's me!
I'm King of the Jungle,
I'm Boss of it All
The apes all cower when they hear my call
I swim the river, I climb the rock
I fight the rhino and wrestle the crock
From the slow moving Congo
Out to the Red Sea
I'm the one to look out for
When you're on Safari
The song "King of the Jungle" by The Kingpins is a boastful anthem that glorifies the power and dominance of the singer. The lyrics convey the message that the singer is the ultimate ruler of the animal kingdom and no one can match his strength and ferocity. He claims to be the king of the jungle, lord of the beasts and rules over the forests and trees. The lion, known as the king of the jungle, even bows down to him. From Kilimanjaro to the banks of the Nile, he lives like an emperor and is the boss of the land in the Sahara. Every living creature pays homage to him, and he is the one to look out for when on safari.
The song employs figurative language such as metaphor and hyperbole to paint a vivid picture of the singer's power and authority. He compares himself to an emperor, a prince, and a boss, and boasts of his ability to swim rivers, climb rocks, fight rhinos, and wrestle crocodiles. The song is a celebration of male bravado and machismo, with the singer asserting his dominance and establishing his position as the alpha male.
