Formed in 1963 in Muswell Hill, North London, they first gained prominence on the heels of the well-received and highly influential single "You Really Got Me" (1964). The group originally consisted of lead singer/guitarist Ray Davies, his brother lead guitarist Dave Davies, drummer Mick Avory, and bassist Pete Quaife. Quaife left (twice) in the late 1960s, and Avory finally left in 1984 as the result of a long-running dispute with Dave Davies, leaving only the Davies brothers as the core of the original group.
With Ray Davies' songwriting skills and unabashedly English voices, Dave Davies' impressive guitar work, and Avory's tight and steady drumming, the band became one of the best and most influential groups of British pop and the "British Invasion" of the U.S.A., lasting longer than any of their competitors, apart from the Rolling Stones, as they broke up in 1996. Their catalogue of songs has been covered by Van Halen, The Pretenders, The Black Keys, The Stranglers, Queens of the Stone Age , and many more.

It's All Right
The Kinks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm gonna fly
I'm going home
And i know why
To see my baby
That's enough
I'm going home
It's all right
It's all right, yeah
It's all right, yeah
It's all right, yeah
I gotta wing, wing
I'm gonna fly by
I'm going home
And i know why, why
To see my baby
That's enough
I'm going home
It's all right
It's all right, yeah
It's all right, yeah
It's all right, yeah
I jumped on a wagon a-shootin' off down the road
I'm gonna see my baby
My baby's gonna take-a me home
I gotta wing, wing
I'm gonna fly by
I'm going home
And i know why, why
To see my baby
That's enough
I'm going home
It's all right
It's all right, yeah
It's all right, yeah
It's all right, yeah
The Kinks's song "It's All Right" is a simple, upbeat tune about the joy of returning home to be with a loved one. The singer of the song is filled with excitement as they express their desire to fly back home to see their baby, and nothing else matters. The lines "I gotta wings, I'm gonna fly, I'm going home, and I know why, To see my baby, that's enough" encapsulate this intense feeling of love and anticipation.
The repetitive nature of the song's chorus reinforces the idea that all will be well once the singer reaches their destination, making it a song of hope and positivity. Even the line "I jumped on a wagon a-shootin' off down the road" is written to convey the feeling of urgency the singer is experiencing. The use of the word "shootin'" suggests a sense of urgency and a longing to reach the final destination quickly.
In the end, "It's All Right" is a song about how powerful love can be. Love can make long journeys feel shorter and ignite a sense of energy and passion that can move mountains. The song is a reminder that, no matter how unpredictable life may seem, love can help us find our way home.

You Really Got Me......I was 12...what a great band....
total stranger
I bought this 45 when I was 12, as well, but didn't like this song. Now, all these years later, it's one of my all-time favorites. It's weird how that can happen.
