Kirby Stone founded the group and enrollled Eddie Hall, Mike Gardner and Larry Forsterand to complete the quartet.
The group began playing clubs in the New York area. They won slots on local television, including The Ed Sullivan Show, and soon after signed to Columbia Records. Several LPs followed, including Baubles, Bangles and Beads; their version of the song Baubles, Bangles and Beads became a hit in the U.S. in 1958.
Among the backing musicians that played on Kirby Stone Four albums were Jimmy Carroll's orchestra, the Kai Winding Quartet, Alvino Rey, Shelly Manne, and Al Klink. Their style, which melded swing jazz, vocalese, and early rock & roll was referred to as "The Go Sound."

Cause that's the kinda guy I'm
While other folks grow dizzy
I keep busy
Bidin' my time.
Next year, next year,
Somethin's bound to happen,
I'll just keep on nappin'
And bidin' my time
Cause that's the kinda guy I'm.
There's no regrettin'
When I'm settin'
Bidin' my time.
The Kirby Stone Four's song "Bidin' My Time" is all about patience and taking things slow, written by George Gershwin in collaboration with Ira Gershwin. In the first stanza, the singer explains that they are bidin' their time because that's the kind of person they are. Instead of getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, they choose to take their time and go about things at their own pace. While others may be in a rush, the singer stays busy, but at a more leisurely pace.
The second stanza acknowledges that something is bound to happen eventually, but until then, the singer will keep on nappin' and bidin' their time, as it's just the way they are. The final lines of the song reinforce the idea that there is no regret when the singer is settin' and bidin' their time. In other words, there is no need to feel impatient or anxious about what the future may hold, as the singer is content with their current situation and way of life.
Overall, "Bidin' My Time" is a gentle reminder to slow down and take things at your own pace, rather than getting caught up in the rat race.
