The Kooks formed at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, where they were all students. Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Luke Pritchard, got bassist Max Rafferty involved in a college project, which formed the base of the band. After getting lead guitarist Hugh Harris and drummer Paul Garred involved, they took their name from the song Kooks on the 1971 David Bowie album Hunky Dory. When they tried to trademark the name, they found that in the late/mid 1990s a Swedish band by the same name released an album in Sweden called Too Much is Not Enough.
The Kooks released a debut EP and played gigs around Brighton, where they were based at the time. They were signed to Virgin Records.
2. Swedish indie rock/alternative band - It consisted of members Henrik Berglund, Leo Dahlin, Michael Lohse and Josef Zackrisson, and was active between 1998 and the early 2000's. Micke Lohse and Henrik Berglund are currently members of the band Atomic Swing.
Mr Maker

A beautiful wife and a baby on the way
And his bills are already paid
No need to skimp, no need to save
But all around him, the world grows hard
He thinks to himself, he must have played a lucky card
If he was alone he'd give it all away
To people and things, that he wanted to save
But oh no, it's alright
Mr. Maker, he'll be fine
It's alright, it's OK
Because of the love he gave away
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Doesn't stop to think it's because of he
Always doing right, he stays healthy
The girls in the alley won't get a hold of him
He's got no time for that kind of sin
And he, he's not a member of the Catholic Church
The pastor of his town got sent down for dirt
He sees the boys from Sunday school
It's hard to believe what he read in the morning news
But oh no, it's alright
Mr. Maker, he'll be fine
It's all right, it's OK
Because of the love he gave away
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Heart beat, stay heavy
Love us all please, stay on your feet
For me, for me
Stay on your feet
For me, for me
Stay on your feet for me
But oh no, it's alright
Mr. Maker, he'll be fine
It's alright, it's OK
Because of the love he gave away
Oh yeah
Oh yeeeeah
The Kooks' song Mr. Maker is a thoughtful take on the idea of success and the cost of it. The song speaks of a man named Mr. Maker who seems to have it all - a beautiful wife, a baby on the way, and his bills paid off. Yet, despite all of this, he sees the world around him growing more challenging, and he feels as though he played a lucky card to land where he has. The lyrics imply that it's easier to donate money if you don't need it, and it's easier to be kind if you don't have to worry about your own survival.
The song continues to draw attention to the fact that Mr. Maker's success is due to his consistent hard work and dedication to always doing the right thing. However, while his successes have brought him material comfort, he's given up a lot of things to get it. He has no time to indulge in vices or to be involved in the community. Despite all of this, the lyrics suggest that Mr. Maker is ultimately a good person who spreads love and positivity, and those things will keep him going.
Overall, the song speaks of the sacrifices people make to achieve success and how that can sometimes lead to isolation and disconnection from others. Mr. Maker is held up as an example of someone who has made these sacrifices, but who has remained true to himself and his values. The song encourages listeners to stay positive, even when times are tough, and to remember that the love they give away will always come back to them.
