Th… Read Full Bio ↴I can haz synth? Yes you can and lots of it, [heart] the L.E.D.s.
The evolution of The L.E.D.s began four short years ago in Christchurch, NZ - courtesy of Marcus Thomas and Blair Parkes who, in 2004, formed "Thomas:Parkes" after both being involved in several guitar-based bands over the previous years.
After writing and releasing the album "Big Machine" as Thomas:Parkes, Marcus and Blair decided to expand the sound.
The introduction of Helen Greenfield (formally of "Barnard's Star") to the line-up introduced more feline synth, luscious vocals, and a dash of strings to the mix. This, of course, made the name "Thomas:Parkes" not only obsolete but incorrect and the search for a new name began. After exchanging many txts and e-mails and much googling (to ensure the name was unique); Helen, Marcus, and Blair settled on the name "The L.E.D.s" - not least because it was a cool name and the omnipresent light emitting diodes on their gear... (mmmm)
Towards the end of 2006, the L.E.D.s released their debut album titled "...we are the L.E.D.s". The album contained several singles that charted in the RDU Top 10 and led to the eccentric Dr Hitchcock including "Modernist Cut" on the compilation "This is not the chch sound".
Following the production of a music video for the second single "Rumba", The L.E.D.s asked drummer Daniel Batkin-Smith to join the band in an effort to step up the live performances. The L.E.D.s continue to use programmed beats mixed with live drums during their live performances and still manage to record and write new material despite being split between Christchurch and Wellington.
Together their powers combine to create catchy, electro-fuelled pop and a super-good time. After several synth-licious, crowd-pleasing performances in Christchurch and a tour as part of the Karajoz Public Address Great Blend, the L.E.D.s are currently working on a new album, scheduled for release in the first half of 2008.

Prolly should be home but I'm out on the weekend
See we all up in this game and some get caught cheating
Not me though better movement when I'm feinding
Don't get me wrong baby I know I should be acting better
But if I don't hit her how I know if her pussy wetter
She said I can't do much to upset her
Cause Ayo
(I'm nervous)
But I gotta play it cool just lay back
Cause this hoe say she loving how I slay tracks
Nows my moment she reaching for the laytex
Wondering if I should even put her on her back
Thinking about my actions and how they chain react
No matter what I do can't seem to relax
Cause when I think about it you bout to catch me in the act
It's the walk in
Pretty brownskin but I get lost in her eyes
And real soon ima be lost in her thighs
I dig her vibe so she always got me in a rise
Told me pull thru so tonight so ima slide
I don't even care that she fucking with some opps
Cause she see my drive so she know I be on top
Ima ball out dont believe just watch
But without a sudden movement it's like she stopped
And she said
(I'm nervous)
But that's cool baby we ain't gotta sweat
Way past physical I dig your intellect
Just know afterwards I'ma need a ciggerate
But that's the second that we finish
When I'm inside I'm compared to a menace
I can feel any second I'll be up in it
But she nervous cause her man will be home any minute
It's a set up
The L.E.D.S's song "Walk" speaks about the journey of life and the struggles that one experiences in it. The song suggests that there are so many aspects of life, from sounds to sights, that we have yet to experience. It tells the listeners that there is so much more to gain from existence, and that there is a need for courage to pursue these experiences.
The lyrics also mention the concept of freedom, and challenge the audience to question whether they truly hear the words when they speak of it, or whether they are merely going through the motions. The song then compares freedom to a cage. It suggests that, although we may be trapped in a physical or mental cage, we should not allow it to encompass us in entirety. The lyrics encourage the audience to be brave and break free from any cages that may be holding them back.
The second verse begins with the dream of being full and pure. The little birdie’s song that the singer hears tells us that we are not bound by our circumstances, and that we must not allow anyone to hold us back. The song strikes a rebellious and empowering chord, telling us that we are capable of defying any limitations set upon us. It emphasizes that there is no cage strong enough to bind us, and that "God has the perfect timing," implying that good things will come to us eventually, just as imprisoned birds are eventually released.
Overall, the message of the song is one of hope, courage, and resilience. The lyrics encourage listeners to be positive and strong, and to continue walking the line – implying that even though life may present challenges, we will come out stronger and more resilient for it.
