1. The Lads are a three piece Christian rock band formed in New Zealand in 1993. In early 2005 the band moved to America, and they are currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee. When discussing the move to America many of the previous members were unable to leave prior commitments in New Zealand, and major line-up changes resulted. The current line-up consists of Mark Millard (vocals), Tim Smith (guitars) and Steve King (drums). They have released a total of eight albums in their 15 year history, two of which won Gospel Album of the Year at the NZ Music Awards (Marvel and The Lads). They performed at every Parachute Music Festival from 1993-2005, earning them a cult status among many fans.
2. The Lads were a Bedford, MA indie group. The Lads played a tight skillful new wave oriented sound coupled with power pop influences. Their one and only album is soaked with bright, energetic and effectual melodies that stand up to any of the more popular acts from the early 80's. Out From The Shadows is highly recommended for the collector searching for a satisfying private press entry and desires a getaway from those more commercial offerings of the day.
3. Punk from sunny Buffalo, New York
Freedom
The Lads Lyrics

Of making my mind up with my head
Of reaching for something that I couldn't get
You made me believe in who I am again
Helped me to leave my past back then
You gave me the words that had been left unsaid
For you to be my freedom, nothing that I can bring
You give me everything, you give to me this freedom
I walked like the rest, did everything they did
But I never felt like I fitted
The puzzle I fit is somewhere else instead
You taught me the reason and how I should deal
With what I was keeping underneath it all
It's life that I'm living ever since we met
The first verse of The Lads' song "Freedom" describes the singer's struggle with uncertainty and fear in their youth. The singer was unsure of how to make decisions and hesitant to pursue things that seemed out of reach. However, the second verse introduces someone who helped the singer find their confidence and identity. This person provided encouragement, support, and words of wisdom that the singer had previously left unsaid. The chorus acknowledges the magnitude of this gift, recognizing that the freedom and sense of self this person bestowed upon the singer is invaluable and cannot be repaid.
Overall, "Freedom" is a song about finding oneself and the impact that a supportive person can have on one's life. The lyrics illustrate how mentors, allies, and loved ones can help guide us on our journeys of self-discovery and provide us with the tools we need to better understand ourselves and the world around us.
