1. The Lads are a three piece Christian rock band formed in New Zealand in 1993. In early 2005 the band moved to America, and they are currently residing in Nashville, Tennessee. When discussing the move to America many of the previous members were unable to leave prior commitments in New Zealand, and major line-up changes resulted. The current line-up consists of Mark Millard (vocals), Tim Smith (guitars) and Steve King (drums). They have released a total of eight albums in their 15 year history, two of which won Gospel Album of the Year at the NZ Music Awards (Marvel and The Lads). They performed at every Parachute Music Festival from 1993-2005, earning them a cult status among many fans.
2. The Lads were a Bedford, MA indie group. The Lads played a tight skillful new wave oriented sound coupled with power pop influences. Their one and only album is soaked with bright, energetic and effectual melodies that stand up to any of the more popular acts from the early 80's. Out From The Shadows is highly recommended for the collector searching for a satisfying private press entry and desires a getaway from those more commercial offerings of the day.

Time to hit the road to dreamland
You're mine baby
Dig you in the land of nod
Hold tight baby
We'll be swinging up in dreamland
All night baby
Where the little cherubs trot
You been a-blowing his top in the blue
Never saw the likes of you
Bye bye baby
Time to hit the road to dreamland
Don't cry baby
It was divine but the rooster has finally crowed
Time to hit the road
Look at that knocked out moon
He been a-blowing his top in the blue
Never saw the likes of you
Bye bye baby
Time to hit the road to dreamland
Don't cry baby
Well it was divine but the cuckoo has finally crowed
Time to hit the road Time to hit the road
Time to hit the road
The Lads's song "On the Road to Dreamland" is a lullaby that speaks of the inevitability of waking up from a beautiful dream and having to return to reality. The lyrics suggest a sense of comfort and tenderness as the singer bids farewell to his "baby" and prepares to enter the dreamland. The repetition of "bye bye baby" adds to the feeling of reluctance in leaving the dream world and returning to the real world.
The song speaks explicitly of the road to dreamland, a place where the "little cherubs trot" and where the moon "blows his top in the blue." The use of a dreamland as a metaphor for a peaceful and serene place where one can escape the harsh reality of the world is evident throughout the song. The moon blowing his top in the blue could refer to the surreal nature of the dreamland, where even the moon loses its gravity and behaves abnormally.
The lyrics also suggest that the dreamland experience was short-lived, as the singer acknowledges that it was "divine but the rooster has finally crowed." The use of the rooster could refer to the concept of time, as roosters generally crow at daybreak, indicating the beginning of a new day. The repetition of "time to hit the road" emphasizes that the time in the dreamland has come to an end, and it's time to return to the reality of the waking world.
