Drunk Tweets
The Lawrence Arms Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One, two, three
Fuck you, if I'm wrong I don't wanna be right
Fuck you, I'll be drinking in the streets all night
Fuck you, I'll decide if I'm wasting my life
You're rotting away and killing my high
Fuck you, it's a thing, I was born this way
Fuck you are my very favorite words to say
Fuck you, I'll eat a few and I'll throw the rest away
Snacking like an asshole in the USA
I eat more for a snack than you do in a day so fuck you

Fuck me, I'm sinking deeper and deeper in doom
Fuck me, I got a Raskolnikovian gloom
Six moves ahead but still fully consumed
I am what I am and I do what I do
Now the Cerberean dogs are slathering
I can feel my stories all unraveling
Bigger Thomas at the heart of a citywide scavenging
It's closing in around me
I can't believe they found me

And it's all well and good to cry doom on the streets
Like the prophets with their sandwich boards, beards and hard feet

But there's no unraveling the rings of the tree
Lord, keep my soul the fuck away from me

Overall Meaning

The Lawrence Arms's song Drunk Tweets is a melancholic punk rock composition that details the band members' existential angst and apathy towards society. The song begins with a catchy chorus that almost mocks the idea of being right or wrong, as the singer claims that he'd "rather be wrong" and "drink in the streets all night." The chorus continues to explore the idea of wasted life, with the singer claiming that he'll "decide" if his life is wasted and that the idea of rotting away is "killing his high." The verses, on the other hand, address the singer's personal struggles, with the first verse detailing how snacking like an asshole is a uniquely American problem.

The second verse, on the other hand, takes on a more introspective tone, with the singer referencing Raskolnikov, the singer of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, and his own inability to change his fate. The singer feels as if he's constantly consumed by his own life and that the dogs are slathering, metaphorically representing the ever-looming threats of the world around him. The song ends on a powerful note, with the singer asking the Lord to "keep [his] soul the fuck away from [him]" and alluding to the idea that society is the root of all his problems.

Overall, Drunk Tweets is a melancholic yet insightful punk rock tune that explores the idea of personal struggle and apathy towards society. It highlights the unique problems of the modern era, from snacking to overthinking to societal pressures, and serves as a message to listeners that it's okay to feel lost and uncertain.

This song is pure gold! Funkin genius!

jinxremovingrock

I'm betting this will be the most disliked song on the album, but they aren't listened past the first 30 seconds. It was the same way with "like a record player" and "on with the show" (both of which are fan favorites at shows). Love it.

Ryan Brzyski

Soo fucking good

Mitchell Gonzalez

this sounds exactly like "'Merican" by Descendants

Awesome! I was hoping somebody else would notice! It was like the first thing I noticed. Regardless, both great songs. Also, "Descendents"*.
