Catch
The Leaves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Two ways to save yourself:
The words you use, the things you do
How you move, these wandering shoes
Around the things you'd like to do
But wait, wait until we know
Wait but there it goes
We can catch it, but time is speeding up
Turn, turn your head around
Turn your waist and try
Make it work cause time is speeding up
So you think you have it all
A time to hesitate and fall
All the things you might have found
Are bound to crush you in the ground
[But wait, wait until we know
Wait but there it goes
We can catch it, time is speeding up
Turn, turn your head around
Turn your waist and try
Make it work cause time is speeding up] x3
But wait, wait until we know (Wait until we know)
Wait but there it goes (But there it goes)
We can catch it, time is speeding up (We'll catch it)
Turn, turn your head around (Turn your head around)

Turn your waist and try(Turn your waist)
Make it work cause time is speeding up (Make it work)

Overall Meaning

The Leaves' song "Catch" is a commentary on the fleeting nature of time and the importance of taking action before it's too late. The lyrics suggest that there are two ways to save yourself: through the words you use and the things you do, and through how you move and where your wandering shoes take you. The singer encourages the listener to be proactive in pursuing their goals, but also cautions them to wait until they know what they really want before taking action.

The chorus emphasizes the urgency of the situation: "We can catch it, but time is speeding up/Turn, turn your head around/Turn your waist and try/Make it work cause time is speeding up." The repetition of the phrase "time is speeding up" underscores the idea that opportunities are limited and time is slipping away.

The second verse acknowledges the fear of failure and the temptation to hesitate and fall, but also warns that inaction can be just as painful as failure. "All the things you might have found/Are bound to crush you in the ground" suggests that missed opportunities can weigh heavily on a person's conscience.

Overall, "Catch" is a call to action, encouraging listeners to seize the day and make the most of their time on earth. It's a reminder that procrastination and hesitation can be just as damaging as failure, and that life is too short to waste on indecision.

It’s sad leaves aren’t that popular, to me their on par with early Keane, but I gotta say their first LP Breath is better than anything I’ve ever heard of the radio x 10. One of the best Icelandic bands I’ve seen. Also, ya know... their really freakin talented.

first heard this band on a compilation of songs inspired by the TV series "The O.C." and found the Breathe album. This song has remained one of my all-time faves... and makes me nostalgic in the same way Coldplay's Parachutes album does.

I also found this band on a free cd. Leaves were not really loved. They released a follow-up album to Breathe which is also great. Eventually dropped by the label. just not fair!
