Frikkin' AMAZING!! I was just a kid of 13 in Brooklyn. I wish that I had the awareness and age to have witnessed this but as big as an Airplane Freak as I am, I guess it doesn't really matter. What they did to NYC that day will NEVER be forgotten. The Cops were Hilarious!!! The band is AMAZING, but what else is new? I will love them for as long as I live. Beatles, were not the first, not even the best. This JA performance is worlds beyond what the Fab Four were able to conjure up for their last live date. (Full disclosure: McCartney was a huge Jack Casady fan, and he must have heard through the rock world of Godard's 'rooftop date' with the Airplane. Later, when the rest of the Beatles had refused Paul's request to perform live (on tour or even a single final concert), the rooftop of Apple was a last resort. Poor Macca!)

We had just started heading down to the Fillmore as the ticket booth opened at 9am(jf memory serves)got off the train at Grand Central and found out about this.16 years old, shows lasted until the sun rose,5.50 tops for orchestra seats,the best of times.We still have a place in the rotten apple but it's all gone.I tell ya if the "tpf" showed up from the village heads would have been busted, I think they don't realize how lucky they were it was midtown cops,dunno if that was Graham but I tend to think yes.

Pooneil was a combination of Poo (as in Winnie The Pooh) and Neil, as in Fred Neil, one of the band's favourite songwriters (amongst other great songs, he wrote Everybody's Talkin' and The Other Side Of This Life, which the Airplne performed Live! )

It is not certain if the Beatles knew about this or not. They did know a lot of the West Coast bands from their time partying in Los Angeles but also things like this didn't go viral like today. I'm not saying for sure that they didn't know but it could be a coincidence. The thing with the police was not planned or wanted by either band and the same thing happened to U2 in 1987 where the cops shut down their rooftop concert.
