Lonely and feeling blue
These arms of mine, they are yearning
Yearning from wanting you
And if you would let them hold you
Oh, how grateful I will be
These arms of mine, they are burning
Burning from wanting you
These arms of mine, they are wanting
Wanting to hold you
And if you would let them hold you
Oh how grateful I will be
Come on, come on baby
Just be my little woman
Just be my lover, oh
I need me somebody, somebody to treat me right, oh
I need your arms, loving arms to hold me tight
And I, I, I need your, I need your tender lips, to hold me
Together when I'm right with you
These Arms of Mine is a soulful ballad performed as a duet by Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding. The lyrics express a sense of longing and loneliness, with the singer's arms being personified as the embodiment of his ache for a particular woman. The repeated refrain, "These arms of mine, they are lonely/Lonely and feeling blue," conveys a sense of helplessness and vulnerability, while the subsequent lines express the deep yearning and burning desire the singer feels for this woman. He pleads with her to let him hold her, promising his undying gratitude if she does.
The chorus of "Come on, come on baby/Just be my little woman/Just be my lover, oh" is a direct plea to the woman to give him a chance. The last lines express the singer's need for affection and tenderness, asserting his willingness to reciprocate and build a lasting relationship with her.

Otis did a lot of covers, but he made them his own, which is what I try to do when performing live. It isn't always easy because some are not receptive to new voices singing old songs. My audiences in shelters and nursing homes are open to anything, which is why I love them.
