The Times characterized The Lemon Twigs as "a modern-day band combining the melodic, harmony-rich soft rock of Wings and Supertramp, the underground cool of Big Star and the Ramones, and the theatricality of Broadway musicals." The Guardian cited the "humbling beauty of their songs" and their "sumptuous harmonies."
The band was signed to legendary British alternative music label 4AD in 2015. Their debut album, Do Hollywood, was released in October of 2016 to widespread critical acclaim. A number of iconic pop music figures have publicly expressed admiration for the Twigs, among them Elton John, The Zombies, Boy George, Laura Marling, Gilbert O'Sullivan, and Gary Brooker of Procol Harum.
As Long As We're Together

In your room without my boots
With your spider in my hand
And I look at you
And my skin is red
Yeah arm to arm and thigh to thigh
Even though there's plenty of room
And I look just like an owl
But it doesn't matter, anyway
As long as we're together
I don't see what's wrong with that
That
As long as we're together
I don't see what's wrong with that
That
Well I don't think I'll be bitter
"Hey you must not know yourself very well"
You will be silent
For a few months
But all that shit he said
I don't know what I read
Yeah keep that sweatshirt wait outside
We've only ever talked
For what?
Seemed like an hour
But I was so happy
There must be common things
As long as we're together
I don't see what's wrong with that
That
As long as we're together
I don't see what's wrong with that
That
But only in my mind would I begin to think it true
The lyrics of "As Long as We're Together" appear to explore a forbidden relationship. The imagery of the spider in the hand may symbolize the power and control one person has over the other in the relationship. The mention of skin turning red could suggest discomfort or tension, indicating that the situation is not entirely ideal. However, the two individuals are still arm to arm and thigh to thigh even though there is plenty of room, implying that they cannot resist each other despite the risk of getting caught.
The singer acknowledges that the relationship is wrong, but they argue that being together is worth the transgression. They seem almost desperate to hold onto the relationship, proclaiming "As long as we're together, I don't see what's wrong with that." The final line, "But only in my mind would I begin to think it true," suggests that the relationship may only exist in the singer's imagination, adding another level of complexity to the lyrics.
Overall, "As Long as We're Together" is a thought-provoking exploration of a taboo relationship. It delves into the complexity of human emotions and the power of attraction, despite the potential consequences.

To the people that play the "they are wannabes" game
What else would you want? What to you is original? Honestly seeing two people like these guys putting in this amount of effort and making amazing music and none the less using great imagery and charisma that takes elements from other people and they make it into their own collective image
Obviously you see bits of influence fly around every witch way and to me that's extremely exciting, because people who are passionate about music and art go out of their way to try to use implements of work that they hear to make their own art, and to me that's exactly what being original is I suppose every band that try's to look different or play different music is just a Beatles or Bowie wanna be in their own way I think people should look for what they've progressed in this and what they have taken and made into something that pushes music a little farther....
