How you stopped needing me
When he came along
Oh, how strange
Strange, you changed like night and day
Just up and walked away
When he came along
Well, I guess that I was just your puppet
You held on a string
To think I thought you really loved me
But look what thoughts can bring
Strange, you're still in all my dreams
Oh what a funny thing
I still care for you
Oh, how strange
Well, I guess that I was just your puppet
You held on a string
To think I thought you really loved me
But look what thoughts can bring
Strange, you're still in all my dreams
Oh what a funny thing
I still care for you
Oh, how strange, how strange
How strange
The Lemonheads's song "Strange" is a poignant, emotional track that explores the feeling of heartbreak and the confusion of how someone can stop loving another person. The lyrics express the singer's surprise and bewilderment at how the person they loved could suddenly stop caring for them, and how they changed completely when someone else came into the picture.
The opening lines of the song, "Strange, how you stopped loving me, how you stopped needing me, when he came along," paint a vivid picture of the moment when the person's affection for the singer shifted, leaving them feeling discarded and unimportant. The next line, "Just up and walked away," further emphasizes the suddenness and finality of the breakup.
The chorus, "Well, I guess that I was just your puppet, you held on a string, to think I thought you really loved me, but look what thoughts can bring," captures the singer's sense of feeling used and manipulated in the relationship. The final verse of the song, "Strange, you're still in all my dreams, oh, what a funny thing, I still care for you, oh, how strange," shows that despite the heartbreak and confusion, the singer still holds some feelings of love and attachment.
