Broudie and Rogers formed the act as the "perfect pop project", and Lightning Seeds broke through in 1989 with the psychedelic synth pop hit, "Pure", which made the UK Top 20 and was a minor hit on US pop radio and a major success on US alternative radio. In the 1990s Lightning Seeds became one of the most popular and enterprising of the era. The 1995 album Jollification was a critical masterpiece, spawning several successful singles. In 1996, Lightning Seeds provided the music and production for the official England anthem for the Euro '96 football tournament. The lyrics were written and sung by comedians Frank Skinner and David Baddiel, and the song, "Three Lions", went straight into the charts at number one.
Since the release of 1999's Tilt the act has taken a back seat as Broudie concentrated on producing the works of others. However, in 2006, Broudie reformed the band with a selection of new members, releasing a Very Best Of album, and performing a number of tour dates. In 2009, the band released Four Winds, their first album in 10 years.
Life's Too Short

you've got the feeling
I've got the feeling
you've got the feeling
Oh love don't go away
I wish you'd stay
Can I change your mind?
When I'm wide awake
But there comes a time
And I see that what I'm needing
Is a feeling to believe in
Maybe it's true
And I'm just a fool
who's making us blue
When life?s too shore
Oh love is kind of tempting fate
It?s an unknown state
In a place I can't find
And now I know I've kind of lost my way
But I keep the faith
With an open mind
And now I know I'm kind of lost
But I keep the faith
I've got the feeling, you've got the feeling
Oh I've got the feeling
you've got that feeling too
Life?s too short, Life?s too short
The Lightning Seeds's song Life's Too Short is about the uncertainties of love and the desire to hold on to it despite the risks. The repeated lines, "I've got the feeling, you've got the feeling," suggest a mutual connection that the singer is afraid of losing. The chorus pleads with love not to go away and expresses a wish to change the other person's mind. However, the singer acknowledges that they might be "just a fool who's making us blue" and that "life's too short" to waste on something that may not work out.
The verses delve deeper into the singer's thoughts and emotions. The first verse reveals that the singer is a dreamer who wishes for love in a "wishful way" even when awake. But there comes a time when dreams aren't enough, and one needs "a feeling to believe in." The second verse echoes this sentiment but adds that the singer has also "lost [their] way" and is trying to keep the faith despite it. In both verses, love is portrayed as an elusive entity that the singer can't quite grasp but desperately wants to.
Overall, Life's Too Short is a bittersweet song about the fragility of love and the human heart. It captures the hope and despair that come with falling in love and the realization that it's not always under our control.
