Once Again
The Livingston Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The simple pages that you bought
Will enlighten then your point of view
On that claim for witch you fought
Was only allowed to hear
That this be the reason I should feel
And I'm the only one with this point of view
On that claim of yours was real... But too late
Refrain:

But once again I'll give in
To the spaces in between
And once again I'll feel itґs alright

You must be blind not to see
You're the only one that stay with me
While this room is empty no one cares of this fire
Just still remains

Refrain:

But once again I'll give in
To the spaces in between
And once again I'll feel itґs alright

But once again I'll give in
To the spaces in between
And once again I'll feel itґs alright
Ahhhh...

The simple pages that you talk
Came to late
White light

Refrain:

But once again I'll give in
To the spaces in between
And once again I'll feel itґs alright

And once again I'll give in to the sound of us within

But once again I will feel itґs alright
And once again I'll feel itґs alright

Overall Meaning

In "Once Again," The Livingstons explore themes of isolation and the importance of human connection. The first verse seems to address the idea of the singer feeling alone in their beliefs or opinions: "The simple pages that you bought/ Will enlighten then your point of view/ On that claim for which you fought/ Was only allowed to hear/ That this be the reason I should feel/ And I'm the only one with this point of view/ On that claim of yours was real... But too late." It's as though the singer has been searching for some validation or support for their ideas, but they've been shut down or ignored until it is too late.

The refrain which appears frequently throughout the song, "But once again, I'll give in/ To the spaces in between/ And once again, I'll feel it's alright" seems to suggest that despite this isolated feeling or sense of being misunderstood, the singer is still reaching out for some kind of connection- that they are willing to "give in" and find comfort in the spaces of distance between them and others.

The chorus seems to focus on the idea that despite feeling very alone at times, the singer is grateful for the one person who does remain by their side "You must be blind not to see/ You're the only one that stay with me/ While this room is empty no one cares of this fire." The final verse ends the song with a sense of resigned acceptance of this state of being: "And once again, I'll give in to the sound of us within/ But once again, I will feel it's alright/ And once again, I'll feel it's alright."
