For Your Love
The London Symphony Orchestra/The London Symphony Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wasn't jealous before we met
Now every woman I see is a potential threat
And I'm possessive, it isn't nice
You've heard me saying that smoking was my only vice
But now it isn't true
Now everything is new
And all I've learned has overturned
I beg of you

Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me

(Don't go sharing your devotion)

It was like shooting a sitting duck
A little smalltalk, a smile and baby I was stuck
I still don't know what you've done with me
A grown-up woman should never fall so easily
I feel a kind of fear
When I don't have you near
Unsatisfied, I skip my pride
I beg you dear

Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me
Don't go sharing your devotion
Lay all your love on me

I've had a few little love affairs
They didn't last very long and they've been pretty scarce
I used to think I was sensible
It makes the truth even more incomprehensible
'Cause everything is new
And everything is you
And all I've learned has overturned
What can I do

Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me

Don't go sharing your devotion
Lay all your love on me

Overall Meaning

"For Your Love" by The London Symphony Orchestra is a song about a woman who has completely transformed the singer's life. Prior to meeting this woman, the singer was not jealous and didn't view every woman as a potential threat. But now that he has met her, he is possessive and can't stand the thought of losing her. He even admits that his previous statement about smoking being his only vice is no longer true because everything in his life is new now that this woman is in it.

The chorus of the song urges this woman not to waste her emotions by giving them to anyone else. The singer wants her to lay all her love on him and not share her devotion with anyone else. He describes how easy it was for her to win him over with just a little small talk and a smile. He realizes that as a grown woman, she should not have fallen for him so easily, but he cannot help the way he feels. He is frightened when she is not near him and feels like he has lost his sense of pride.

The song speaks to the way love can completely transform a person's life. The singer was not expecting to fall so deeply in love, but once he did, he was willing to do whatever it takes to make sure this woman stayed with him. He is possessive and jealous but is willing to risk looking foolish to keep her by his side.

Absolutely brilliant hearing the electric guitars doing the hard working rhythm section while the trumpets and the woodwind section are doing the long high notes, sheer bloody brilliance

@63highvoltage

a good version, as a lover of music from a large range of genres it's nothing like the origional. it's the same tune, arrangement is the same but that's where it ends. the origional still bears the test of time
