Sky Chariots
The Lord Weird Slough Feg Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Coming in swarms
Out of the sky
Forming an iron cross
Then they divide

Only the smells of death will follow them

Galleys that fly
Out of the north
Painting the sky-ways red
Plundering forth

Only the swiftest will challenge them

Carrying chains
Iron and swords
Poisonous arrows fly
Into the hordes

Only the stoutest stock of nothern men

Battling trees
Wrestling rocks
Summoning Voden's strength
Enemies drop

Only the trials of flesh will challenge them

(Chorus)
Voden's call
One and all
Thor's winds blow
North we go

Coming in swarms
Out of the sky
Forming an iron cross
Then they divide

Only the smells of death will follow them

Galleys that fly
Into the sun
Carrying rogues and slaves
Enemies fallen

Only the trails of blood remember them

(Chorus)

Overall Meaning

The Lord Weird Slough Feg's song Sky Chariots describes a battle between the nothern men and the invading forces arriving on sky chariots. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the chaos that ensues when the unknown enemy descends from the sky to take over the lands of the northern tribes. The opening lines build up the tension, as the invaders approach in swarms, forming an iron cross, and then divide. The smell of death lingers in the air, foreshadowing the coming battle.

The northern men face a fierce challenge as the sky galleys arrive, painting the sky-ways red and plundering forth. To face them, only the swiftest and stoutest stock of nothern men dare to challenge them. The invaders carry chains, iron and swords, and poisonous arrows fly into the hordes. The northern men stand tall, battling trees and wrestling rocks, summoning Voden's strength to defeat the enemy. The trials of flesh challenge them as the battles rage on.

The chorus speaks of Voden's call, one and all and Thor's winds blowing as they march north to face their enemy. The final verse is a reminder of the invaders' fleeting victory as they fly into the sun, carrying rogues, and slaves. The only memory left is trails of blood. The song is an ode to the bravery of the northern men and a warning of the mercilessness of their enemy.
