The band's debut self-titled album was released on April 3, 2012. The album's first single, "Ho Hey" reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.
The Ho Hey Songfacts reports that Schultz and Fraites were originally based in New York and started collaborating in 2002 after Fraites’ brother, Josh, who was also Schultz’s best friend died of an overdose. The pair began writing and performing to cope with their grief and they later relocated to Denver, where they met the classically trained Pekarek after advertising for a cellist.
Their self-titled debut album The Lumineers was released on April 3, 2012, on Dualtone Records.
Their second album, Cleopatra, was released in 2016.
The band's third album, titled III, was released on September 13, 2019 and debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200.

Sick In the Head
The Lumineers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Write me off, oh yes they should
Fuck 'em they're just sick in the head
They're writing my history
Think somebody should've asked me
Everyone was safe in their beds
Their beds
And I said
I won't live, won't live like them
Everyone, they're all seeing red
I don't know
If it's alright with you, but I'll be gone
A ghost will be here in my stead, my stead
And I said
I can't live life underneath it all
Everyone is older now and gone
I will not be here forever dear
So let's just make this count a lot in here
In "Sick In The Head," The Lumineers explore the theme of being misunderstood and judged by others. The opening lines convey the singer's awareness that people say he's no good and write him off, however, he asserts that it's just their own sickness in the head that makes them do so. The second verse is even more poignant, as he reflects on how others prescribe a history to him without ever asking him his viewpoint. The lines "Everyone was safe in their beds, their beds" create a sense of distance between him and others, suggesting that he's a kind of pariah.
The chorus emphasizes his resolve to go his own way, renouncing the ways of those around him: "I won't live, won't live like them, everyone, they're all seeing red." The lyrics convey a sense of resignation as he mentions becoming a ghost. The repeated lines "And I said, I can't live life underneath it all" further highlight his sense of being suffocated by the world around him.
The song eventually culminates in the singer's belief that he won't be here forever and encourages the listener to make this moment count. The repeated "oh-oh-oh" refrain underscores that sentiment, creating an anthemic sense that this is his rallying call to live viscerally.
