The band's debut self-titled album was released on April 3, 2012. The album's first single, "Ho Hey" reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.
The Ho Hey Songfacts reports that Schultz and Fraites were originally based in New York and started collaborating in 2002 after Fraites’ brother, Josh, who was also Schultz’s best friend died of an overdose. The pair began writing and performing to cope with their grief and they later relocated to Denver, where they met the classically trained Pekarek after advertising for a cellist.
Their self-titled debut album The Lumineers was released on April 3, 2012, on Dualtone Records.
Their second album, Cleopatra, was released in 2016.
The band's third album, titled III, was released on September 13, 2019 and debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200.

Where The Skies Are Blue
The Lumineers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've never seen nobody quite like you
And if you ever change your tune
Oh, the world's got the best of you
You can always find me where the skies are blue
Wanted to change, turn into what you love, mama
So, if you ever need a fool
Who will give you a love so true
You can always find me where the skies are blue
Lay your dreams, little darlin', in a flower bed
Let that sunshine in your hair, in your hair
You're gonna bleed somebody's brand new love, mama
Who's gonna feel you like it always do
And when your fairytale is through
And you're looking for someone new
You can always find me where the skies are blue
You can always find me where the skies are blue
The Lumineers’ song “Where The Skies Are Blue” is a heartfelt tribute to a love that could have been. The first verse sets a melancholic tone as the singer acknowledges that their lover is going to leave – an inevitable heartbreak that seemingly doesn’t faze them. However, it’s clear from the next few lines that there’s something special about their lover; the singer hasn’t seen anyone quite like them before. The chorus is the song’s main refrain, and offers a tender reassurance: if their lover ever changes their mind and feels trapped by society, the singer is always there.
The second verse is especially poignant as the singer says that they would have done anything to change themselves in order to conform to their lover’s expectations. But even though that love may not have panned out, the singer still holds that emotional loyalty. The lines “lay your dreams, little darlin’, in a flower bed / let that sunshine in your hair, in your hair” are particularly beautiful, adding a delicate touch to an otherwise bittersweet song. The final verses warn that their lover is going to find someone else who will love them like “it always do”, but if things don’t work out, the singer is always there – under the same sky as always.
Overall, “Where The Skies Are Blue” is a touching song about dedication and the tragedy of love that doesn’t work out. It’s a comforting assurance to a person who might feel lost and uncertain about the world around them. Despite everything else going on, there’s always someone there who will stand by you and offer support when you need it the most.
