They were fairly obscure until their single 'Turning My Heart Beat Up' became an iconic hit on the Northern Soul scene in the United Kingdom in the 1970s.

The group formed when member of two local acts joined forces and became a new group: Emory Cloud and Jack Frazer from The Combinations and Jesse Bryant and Alphonzo 'Al' Davis from The Classic's (sic). By 1969 their manager was Donn Clendenon, who was also a prominent baseball player (first baseman, to be precise) for the 1969 New York Mets. Clendenon became the 'Most Valuable Player' for the Mets that season. It was Clendenon who persuaded the group to drop the name The Classic's and become The Most Valuable Players, soon abbreviated to just The M.V.P.'s.

This is brilliant and just saw it sung live at The No 2 Northern Soul Prom at The Royal Albert Hall as part of The Proms 2023. Watch and listen to this show it was incredible . Wonderful Musicians , Royal Albert Hall was packed and thousands of people dancing.
