Sky
The MANICS Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah I'm tired, I'm wired
I'm wasted and fired up
Oh it's such a shame we came to this day
Yeah I knew I knew I knew you'd be slipping away

On a bus, on a train it's a shame
It's all a game, I guess I'll play it
All alone, all alone
On and on and on we go

Let's go up to your bedroom
In the spring when your flower blooms
In June, or July, in the October night sky

Only under the October sky
I feel alive, I

Only under the October sky
I feel alive

Overall Meaning

The MANICS's song Sky is a melancholic yet reflective tune that features some introspective lyrics that are talking about a failed relationship. The initial lyrics, "Yeah I'm tired, I'm wired, I'm wasted and fired up" seem to be describing a state of emotional exhaustion following the end of the relationship. The songwriter is lamenting the fact that the relationship has come to an end, as seen in the lines, "Oh it's such a shame we came to this day, Yeah I knew I knew I knew you'd be slipping away". The song seems to be about two people who were once in love but have drifted apart, and one of the people is finding it hard to move on, hence the feelings of being "wasted and fired up."

The next few lines seem to be talking about the aftermath of the break-up, with the writer suggesting that the whole experience feels like a game that they are resigned to play. The last part of the lyrics is quite interesting as the writer sings, "Let's go up to your bedroom, in the spring when your flower blooms, in June, or July, in the October night sky." This seems to reference a happier time in the relationship, perhaps when they were still in love, and they would enjoy spending time together in the author's partner's bedroom. The final line, "Only under the October sky, I feel alive," reveals how important this relationship was to the author, and how it was only with that person that they felt truly alive.
