Feel To Follow
The Maccabees Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How was I to ever,
Believe it?
It's never too late,
Until it's too late,
And I've been stranded,
And I need something.

Now I can see it,
And I can feel it,
I believe it.
Ever since I,
Can remember,
It's been as nothing.

Until I almost,
Feel to follow.

Feel to follow.

How will I ever,
Get a breather,
When it's over?
I've seen it in another,
Someone stronger,
Couldn't leave it.

Until I almost,
Feel To Follow

Feel to follow

Overall Meaning

The song "Feel To Follow" by The Maccabees begins by expressing skepticism and disbelief in something that is perhaps being presented to the singer. However, the singer acknowledges that it's never too late to believe in something until a critical moment arrives when it is too late. The singer feels they have been stranded and need something to believe in. Then the singer experiences a change, they can see and feel what was possibly doubted before, and they now truly believe in it. The singer had lived a life where believing in something did not matter until now, when they almost feel like they have to follow it.

The second part of the song is about the difficulty of finding a moment to breathe in a seemingly overwhelming situation. The singer has observed someone else more significant than them, who could not walk away from something, possibly a belief or faith. The singer reiterates that they are almost feeling compelled to follow without knowing what it is that they feel they have to follow.

Overall, "Feel To Follow" has a theme of finding something to believe in or have faith in, and the difficulty of finding a moment to make decisions. The song also touches on the idea that sometimes we may find ourselves believing in something only after being pushed to our limits.

I remember first discovering The Maccabees in NME, they used to showcase such amazing bands, its a shame what it has become, my music producer friend in high school used to show me all these great bands but this is one of the first bands I showed him I'm proud to say, their music still gives me chills, my friend has just released a brand new banging indie track, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Beaches, brings back nostalgic indie memoires well worth checking out
