Let Somebody In
The Magic Numbers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But you don't know how
And you want to feel
But you're not allowed
And you want to cry
But you don't know why
And you want to give
But you're not that kind
When you gonna let somebody in?
You might get hurt just a little bit
When you gonna let somebody in?
Said, you want to love
But you don't know how
And you want to trust
But you're not allowed
And you want to cry
But you don't know why
And you want to give
But you're not that kind
When you gonna let somebody in?
You might get hurt just a little bit
When you gonna let somebody in?
You want to love
But you don't know how
And you want to feel
But you don't know how
The Magic Numbers' song "Let Somebody In" explores the vulnerability and fear of opening up to others, despite a longing for things like love, trust, and connection. The repetition of lines in the verses highlights the internal struggle of the singer, who desires these things but feels limited by their own emotional barriers. The chorus, with its repeated question "When you gonna let somebody in?" serves as a call to action, urging the singer to take a risk and allow themselves to be vulnerable, even if it means potentially getting hurt.
The song's bridge reinforces this message, with the line "You don't know what you're missing until you try," suggesting that the rewards of opening up to others are worth the risks involved. Overall, the song speaks to a universal struggle of learning to trust and connect with others, despite the fear and uncertainty that can come with it.
