He released the first of his albums on his independent online label, Whimsy Records. In 2010, he joined the newly formed Futures Passed Free Music label and started releasing music on better equpment, starting with his self-titled release The Malkmusian.

Due to his limited resources, his recordings have a lot of similar sounds, but he plans on recording collaborative tracks with fellow FPFM artists Nozdordomu and Futures Passed.

I had no idea I would still be listening to Stephen Malkmus in 2017 when I went out on a limb as a 14 year old kid and bought Crooked Rain. Malkmus is easily one of my generation's best songwriters.

Love this song. Picturing a guy who introduces himself to people as "the Ess-dog, or Sean if you wish" sets the scene for the rest of the song so perfectly, and from there it's just a matter of waiting for this summer fling to end (and for those awful toe rings to come off).

The hook to this song, sounds like a sped up version of the hook in "Say Yes" by Elliot Smith. Which interestingly enough was supposedly written about the bassist from The Jicks, Joanna Bolme.

Love both songs, and all these musicians, not trying to say anything just explaining that person's comment, you'll hear it when you listen to "Say Yes" now which is another beautiful song with a totally different tone!

Interesting interpretation. I've listened quite extensively to Elliott Smith, and even though this is one of my favorite Malkmus songs, it never crossed my mind. But as reasonable as it sounds, I find it more plausible that it's just a "generic" portrayal of the typical stereotype we all know from popular cultre, the early 30's/late 20's "loser" male that dates high schoolers instead of someone his own age.

What I love about it is how he really brings out the romance and the sense of loss , making you relate and identify with the couple and their situation, instead of the obvious "creep dates teen with daddy issues" take on the situation.

Pretty sure S-dawg would be the self-applied name, similar to how the Dude calls himself the Dude (if you're into the whole brevity thing). And she is cool with it, because she's just 18, and he's 31.
