Everyday
The Marshall Tucker Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lord, everyday, everyday
Everyday, everyday I sing the blues
Goin' to find me a preacher man
Lord, I've gotta find one

Lord, I went to see my mama
Down at the City Hall
Said she loved me [Incomprehensible]
She said, "Everyday, everyday"
I said, "Everyday and Lord
Everyday I sing the blues"

Lord, everyday, everyday
Everyday, Lord, everyday
I'mma find me a preacher man
Lord, I've gotta find one

Lord, everyday, everyday
Everyday, Lord, everyday I sing
Goin' to find me a preacher man

Lord, everyday, everyday
Everyday, everyday, Lord
I said, everyday, Lord, everyday

I said, Lord, everyday
I said, Lord, everyday
I said, Lord, everyday

I said, Lord, everyday

I'll have to sing those no good
Low down, dirty rotten stinkin' blues

Overall Meaning

The Marshall Tucker Band's song "Everyday" is a blues rock song that is about a person who sings the blues every day and is trying to find a preacher man who can help him overcome his troubles. The repeated phrase, "Lord, everyday, everyday, everyday I sing the blues" highlights the artist’s ongoing struggles that require solace or answer from a higher power. The mention of the mother accentuates how she is an important figure in the singer's life because she knows him well enough to know that he sings the blues regularly. She consoles him with love but reminds him that he must figure out and solve his own problems.

The singer's search for a preacher man is a potential solution to his problems. Reverends often offer advice and guidance to their congregations, and a preacher man is the key to the redemption the singer seeks. The phrase, “Goin' to find me a preacher man, Lord, I've gotta find one," shows a sense of urgency in his mission. Just as the preacher man seeks answers to his problems, the singer hopes his search will provide relief from his struggles. The song portrays a story of human struggle, as the character sings the blues every day and searches for salvation.

Everyday, everyday I have the blues
Ooh everyday, everyday I have the blues
When you see me worryin' baby, yeah, it's you I hate to lose
Whoa, nobody loves me, nobody seems to care
Whoa, nobody loves me, nobody seems to care
Well worries and trouble darling, babe you know I've had my share
Everyday, everyday, everyday, everyday,
Everyday, everyday I have the blues
When you see me worryin' baby, yeah, it's you I hate to lose
Whoa nobody loves me, nobody seems to care
Whoa nobody loves me, nobody seems to care
Well worries and trouble darling, babe you know I've had my share
