All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down
The Mavericks feat. Flaco Jimenez Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't sleep a wink anymore
Ever since you first walked out the door
Then I just started drinking to forget
But I don't think the worst has happend yet

All you ever do is bring me down
Making me a fool all over town
They all wonder why I wear a frown
That's 'cause honey all you ever do is bring me down
Hear me now, I go, whoo

It's funny how my whole world fell apart
I think I saw it coming from the start
I tried to tell myself that you'd be true
But I expected way too much of you

All you ever do is bring me down
Making me a fool all over town
They all wonder why I wear a frown
That's 'cause honey all you ever do is bring me down
I take ma'm

All you ever do is bring me down
Making me a fool all over town
They all wonder why I wear a frown
That's 'cause honey all you ever do is bring me down
That's 'cause honey all you ever do is bring me down

Honey all you ever do is bring me down
Two, three, four

Overall Meaning

The Mavericks feat. Flaco Jimenez's song All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down is a sad ballad about a failed relationship. The singer is unable to sleep since his partner walked out on him. He tries to forget the pain by drinking but that only makes things worse. The woman seems to be the reason for all his pain, making him a fool in front of everyone in the town. The singer had hoped that his partner would be true to him, but he expected too much. In the end, all she ever does is bring him down.

The lyrics convey a sense of heartbreak and betrayal. The singer has put all his faith in the woman, only to be let down. The repetitive phrase 'All you ever do is bring me down' emphasizes his pain and despair. The lines 'They all wonder why I wear a frown' and 'Honey all you ever do is bring me down' depict his deep sadness and the hopelessness of the situation. The use of the word 'honey' in the refrain is bitterly ironic, emphasizing the contrast between the sweetness of the word and the bitterness of his feelings.

I LOVED these guys back in the 90's and had a major crush on Raul. 😁 I could listen to The Mavericks all day and never get sick of hearing him sing. Look up his cover of "Crying" by Roy Orbison. Chills.
