The Truth
The Mercury Rising Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's odd how we see things so perfectly clear when the hour of death is near
No time for untangling the web that's weaved no time
For claiming you don't believe no time for now it's the moment of truth
It's strange how we talk of the things that we'll do
But can't seem to follow through
Waiting for a better day waiting for fortune to come our way waiting
No more at the moment of truth
The dream of achievement from twilight years with the setting sun disappears
Opportunity came and went yesterday and taken or not left a price to pay
Let's take advantage of this day
Our moment's not so far away
A reconstruction of body soul
And mind in preparation for the day we leave this life behind
How we use this life of pain determines what we have to gain
It's strange how we talk of the things that we'll do
But can't seem to follow through
And all that we should have comes perfectly clear when the hour of death is near
No time for untangling the web that's weaved no time for claiming
You don't believe no time for now it's the moment of truth
The dream of achievement from twilight years with the setting sun disappears
Opportunity came and went yesterday and taken or not left a price to pay

Let's take advantage of this day our moments not so far away
How we use this life of pain determines what we have to gain...

Overall Meaning

The Mercury Rising's song "The Truth" speaks about the inevitability of death and the urgency that comes with it. The opening lines suggest that death is the only moment when we see things clearly, implying that we tend to ignore the truth in our daily lives. The song then speaks about missed opportunities and dreams that disappear with age like the setting sun. The lyrics encourage living in the present moment and taking advantage of the day we have.

The song also touches on the idea that the way we live our lives will determine what we gain from it. It suggests that we should use the experiences and pain we encounter in life to grow and prepare for the moment we leave this life behind. The repetition of the phrase "the moment of truth" emphasizes the importance of living authentically and not waiting for a better day or fortune to come our way.

Overall, the song urges the listener to not wait for the last moment to realize the meaning of life and to take advantage of every single day to create a better future for ourselves.

I had cancer in 1989. When I was having chemo I would sing Another One Bites the Dust. When I was having radiation therapy, I'd sing We Are the Champions. No scientific proof, but I'm still here in 2022 and will be here for years to come

One hell of a performer and sadly missed. Gotta respect him for having lived life on his own terms. That Live Aid performance was the pinnacle of perfection and likely to never be topped. Godspeed Sir.

Freddie I’m sure thought if he couldn’t live life on his own terms then what’s the sense in living, as we all would think. Yes by doing this he was taken far to young and I’m sure we all missed out on more incredible songs and music by him, but his life and the way he lived it made him happy and that’s what really matters in the end. We were left with incredible songs that are to be enjoyed generation after generation. And no one will ever come close to Freddie! Miss you much!

Living life on his own terms is what killed him so I would have to disagree with your statement.

Would be AMAZING if Freddy could see how many lives he and the band touched and are still touching in 2022 with their music.

Amber Maymon
